Hey guys it’s nice to be back, but I’m not sure it’s on a regular basis yet. In case you missed my little announcement last Sunday, I will quickly give you an update and recap our lovely situation. But first, I want to thank so many of you who have emailed me to see if we are okay, I can’t tell you what that means to not only me, but my husband and son, so thank you. We are adding on to our house, that’s the good part, but on the second day of digging the excavators hit something and part of our foundation fell. The house shook, vibrated and moved and part of the floor in a few rooms opened up at the seam. It was absolutely horrifying being there and hearing the noises and seeing one our dog’s paws hanging out of the opening. So we had to evacuate fast last Saturday and while we were out they got a crew to res-shore what came down. And then we were able to return. So we ARE here, but the re shoring is only good for a short time and we are waiting for contractors to come and FIX the problem. So today I have time to write my column, which makes me happy, but we are taking all of this day by day so if you don’t see me Tuesday or over the weekend you know it’s again hectic here. Now that that’s over with I would just love to share some of my thoughts about last week’s Raw, ECW and Smackdown. I feel so out of the loop but believe me I didn’t miss a show.
Of course I’m going to start with Raw first, and I’m sorry that I’m a week behind. Many of you asked me how I thought Mike Adamle did on his first night as Raw GM. Here’s the thing, I didn’t think Adamle was crap, because for the most part he was passable, but, and it’s a big BUT. I don’t get his character at all. Is he a heel, a face, or a tweener? Are we going to get a guy each week that is bland and missing charisma, or are they going to try to do something with this guy to get our attention each week? I mean he was fine but there was nothing special about what he did, and I believe if they don’t do something with his role, Adamle is going to bore all of us to death. I though the JBL vs. Jericho vs. CM Punk match was very good, but I would be lying to you if I said I was happy with the ending and JBL getting the win. I would much rather have seen a triple threat match with Punk vs. JBL vs. Jericho. Oh and speaking of Jericho, I must say NICE LEGS, yeah very nice legs.
Shawn Michaels ROCKED with his “at home interview.” Man did he look like he was in agony or what with that eye? He’s really playing his part so well and so perfectly that as I was watching him and listening to him I started getting emotional. I also love how they are playing up Michaels announcement at Summer Slam about what his plans are for the future. Again this angle with Michaels and Jericho has really made Raw worth watching each week. I totally didn’t get the Kane vs. Matt Striker match, Again Kane got into a fabulous storyline of going berserk and violent, and now he’s back in the ring as the face going against a heel. I hate when they do this to Kane and they do this way too often. I got a kick out of Jamie Noble and totally got into William Regal coming out and man handling Noble. I think Noble is in for a nice feud with Regal and believe me I’m all for it. Mickie James vs. Katie Lea was good, solid match as was Kofi Kingston vs. Paul Burchill. And to top things off I was surprised and surprised in a good way to see Beth Phoenix run out and attack Mickie. I am enjoying Beth so much better now than when she was the women’s champion. And of course I laughed when Santino came out and Beth pinched his ass and he lightly tapped hers back. These two hopefully are going to make Raw a LOT of fun to watch.
And finally I hated John Cena’s over the top, badly acted interview with Todd Grisham and even more I hated the main event because I knew that Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase were going to lose the titles to Batista and Cena. I’m so turned off by this angle with Cena and Batista because as I said a few weeks ago it’s the same script and the same results that we have seen over and over again. You know these famous words, “ I don’t like you, and I know you don’t like me.” OR “I don’t trust you and I know you don’t trust me.” And again they have Cena singing the praises of Batista and making Cena a softy and I hate that. And to make matters worse they take the tag team belts away from two up and comers and give it to the two guys that hate each other, and now we have to hear each time they defend the title, “Do you think these two can co-exist as tag team champs?” OR “Are these two guys on the same page?” God I hate all of this and even though the main event was a good match the ending absolutely killed it for me.
So my take on Raw is this, CM Punk the World Champion is still not main eventing Raw, but Cena and Batista are. There is way too much focus on the new tag team champs than the World champion, and again there’s too much of JBL for me as well. Come on Randy get back soon. The show wasn’t bad but unfortunately as I said the ending left a bad taste in my mouth. Now onto ECW and Matt Striker. While I have not been a Striker fan when it comes to watching him wrestle, I have to give him major props for the job he did as Tazz’s replacement Tuesday night. He looked good and he’s a natural when it comes to talking so being ECW’s announcer is perfect for him. Now the latest is that Mick Foley is leaving WWE, he doesn’t want to be work as a broadcaster it’s too much for him. So Tazz replacing Foley on Smackdown, and Striker replacing Tazz on ECW might stick. Striker and Grisham both came through and I just feel that ECW is starting to get good again. The only thing that shocked me on the show was how badly Miz and Morrison bombed in front of the live crowd with their Dirt Sheet. It’s one of the funniest shows on WWE.com but live boy it sure lost something, but add Matt Hardy going against Mark Henry for the ECW title and just that is making ECW a decent and entertaining show.
Finally I thought Smackdown was good, not great but good. I will tell you right off, Edge gave me the creeps. The main event with Edge, Chavo and Vickie supposedly aligning to stop the Undertaker turned out so very well. Edge had no intention of aligning with his lovely “wife” and best man Chavo, instead he lost it and hit Chavo in the back with a chair and then did a conchairto on him. But Edge wasn’t done, oh no he then went toward Vickie and totally looked and acted like a psycho, but he then teased Vickie that he had calmed down, only to tell he that he was going to hell along with Taker, the family and especially Vickie and then he tipped her out of her wheel chair. Wow Edge was a whacko Friday night and we have Mick Foley to thank for that. After Foley’s pep talk last week telling Edge that only HE could beat Taker, Edge got rid of the laid back heel and he’s now a total nut job and I love it. What a fantastic Smackdown ending.
I can’t say I was that thrilled with Hunter and Khali’s segment. Let’s face it we knew neither guy was going to get their hand cut up with glass in the Indian broken glass arm wrestling match, which was okay with me, but I’m sorry to say that Khali’s head chop and Vice Grip do nothing for me. This is one match that I don’t need to see at Summer Slam. But in all fairness Hunter had some funny lines and as I told my husband I really like Khali, just not the way he’s used. The poor guy can’t even walk, so why bother to put him in a match?
The Brian Kendrick match against Super Crazy was okay, but I think to really get The Brian’s gimmick over they need to put him against a top name not a guy you see every three months or a jobber. They need to put Kendrick and his body guard Ezekiel in a storyline with a major name or at least with a guy that’s on each week and the fans react favorably too. But I still like the gimmick, and I want to see enough time given to it to see if he gets over. I thought we got another very good vignette with R. Truth. I like these because they are not over done. He comes off very natural and very sincere, so another good showing for this guy. I was so sorry to see that Shannon Moore was released; this guy has never caught a break, maybe because he’s not SNIZKY, KOZLOV, KHALI, OR HENRY. And trust me I’m being sarcastic, I love watching Moore and I will miss him. His match with Jimmy Wang Yang against Hawkins and Ryder was good and fast paced. Unfortunately it was a little too short for me, but it was very enjoyable and I felt bad knowing that the match was the last for Moore. My match of the night was Jeff Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin. This was just an awesome match. I said this two weeks ago, but I hope to God that Benjamin puts his all into keeping this push going because watching him work is a total pleasure. And Hardy is adding so much to Smackdown and together these too really put on a hell of a match. Also I thought MVP’s interview with Eve was excellent. For a while it was like MVP was just there, but he seems like he’s come alive again and his mic work as been really good as well as his in ring work.
The rest of Smackdown was okay but the segments that I mentioned are really what stuck out for me. I am looking forward to tomorrow’s Raw but you just know how Batista and Cena are going to act with each other because they are going to have a rematch with Rhodes and DiBiase, oh yes I can just see each one staring at the other and one of them taking the other one out. And I see that JBL has challenged CM to some type of match, hopefully that will turn out fairy well. I want to see what Jericho’s next move is and if HBK will show up. Look for me on Tuesday, but remember if you don’t see a column you know the reason why. I will do my best to get them out, because I really miss it when I’m unable to do one.
