Quinton Jackson has been taken to police headquarters and charged with felony hit and run, felony evading arrest, and reckless driving. This was the end result of a pretty wild series of events that unfolded in Newport Beach, CA earlier today.
The Costa Mesa Police Department reports that an officer noticed Rampage driving with a flat tire and talking on his cell phone so he tried to pull him over immediately. (Beginning July 1st of this year, it is illegal in the state of California to drive and talk on a cell phone at the same time unless your phone is equipped with a hands-free device.) Quinton ignored the officer, and went on his way thus creating a pursuit. The chase went on with some reckless driving (partially due to Quinton’s tire) including some weaving in and out of traffic, driving against traffic, and at one point in time reportedly going on the curb and scaring pedestrians away. A collision took place with nobody being injured, but Quinton kept going. In Newport Beach, CA, his tire finally blew out and came off the car, causing the vehicle to stop. He was held at gunpoint and taken to the police station under arrest with a $25,000 bond.
Things are acutally worse, as police had gotten a report of a vehicle — with Quinton Jackson’s picture as that of the driver — involved in a collision on the 55 Freeway (this is located in Costa Mesa). His car struck other vehicles and then fled the scene, as reported by Lt. Paul Dondero.
The word is that UFC President Dana White flew to Orange County right away upon hearing the news of Jackson’s arrest, and was on his way to the county jail, believed to post bond for Quinton’s release.
We will keep you updated on this story as more comes our way.
