Well isn’t this a shocker! I was expecting Punk’s move to Raw would result in his complete and utter burial, but hey, look who was wrong. Not the first time, and probably won’t be the last.
First of all I’d just like to say hi to my new readers over at the Wrestling Gazette. It’s an honour to be posting there now, and, if any more websites are looking for an amazing new columnist, let’s just say, I’m available.
So, just before we get right into the meat of this column, which of course, is going to be a quick raw review just before I leave for my holiday (note how I REFUSE to use the word vacation). I recently received my copy of Wrestlemania 24 on Blu-Ray. Now, as someone who completely refuses to pay several hundred pounds to receive Sky HD, this was my first chance to see WWE in HD.
WOW.
Simply, WOW.
The quality and clarity is awe inspiring, especially when it comes to pyro and the such like. The seamless menus are also a nice touch, not having to leave what I’m watching, wait for a menu to load, then wait for the chapter I want to watch to load. The event itself of course was much better than I was expecting, but we don’t need a column about a 3 month old event, do we?
Right, onto this week’s raw!
As far as I’m concerned, this was the exact Post-Draft Raw we needed. Everything was top-notch, and while it was still slightly strange seeing CM Punk, Jamie Noble, and Kofi Kingston in a Raw ring, everyone seemed to fit right in at their new show. It’s nothing against Punk, Noble or Kingston, but I had this problem with lashley last year, it just took me some time to adjust to seeing him in the red ring, even though he’d practically been a raw superstar for the preceding month.
Well, this show started off with the first of many amazing promos, from Good Ol’ J.R, Jim Ross! This was a truly emotional promo from the Big Boomer, but before that of course we had our message from The Prodigal Son Shane McMahon, stating that he wants to tell us nothing basically. Pointless. Something tells me he’ll soon have a much bigger role to play. Just what we need, another “Who Killed McMahon” story.
Now, the only real problem I had with J.R’s speech was that it made him look like a complete and utter mute idiot. He could’ve at least had one little come back to Edge, maybe a little “Kiss My Boomer Sooner ass?” Was that REALLY too much to ask for? Apparently so.
Let’s face it, we knew Edge was there for a reason, and the second he started talking about how no Raw superstar was going to get his hands on the World Heavyweight Championship, we knew something was going to happen. To be honest I expected Raw to be sans-champion until Edge’s wedding, where we’d hear the bong, then Taker decimates, and Punk cashes in. Apparently not. Oh well, I’m happy, because I’m a HUGE Punk fan. If you don’t already know, he was my straight edge inspiration.
Of course, I’m slightly disappointed that Punk didn’t win it by himself, as a baby face probably should, but still, I think with it being an ironic twist against Edge, he more than likely got away with it. I’m just hoping that his reign will be both fairly long, and without the constant jobbing of his ECW title reign.
But, onto the rest of the show, now we have Punk’s perfectly earned emotional celebration.

I have to say, Mickie James has quickly evolved into my favourite Diva. Both in terms of looks and ring work. I wouldn’t say she’s “hot” but she’s more just plain gorgeous! Anyway, teenage hormones, recede!
I’ve been saying for ages, Jillian should come out singing her music live. I think I have a secret fan in WWE HQ. Anyway, this was a fairly solid match if I’m honest, just extremely short for my liking. Damn it, get more Mickie on TV!
Right, now to one’s of Raw’s most exciting draft picks, Rey Mysterio! I have to say it, I love his new pyro, but I do miss his old jump entrance. Actually, this was a pretty good promo from Mastero (Lol@ santino).
I’m glad he didn’t slip into Spanish, because that alienates so much of his audience. Then of course we had Santikka Massala, Another superb promo by the “Italian,” with some quite brilliant interaction by Rey. I’m guessing that by using the 619, Rey’s telling us his bicep is better, which can only be good news!
This raised a few questions though, what was so “strange?” An since when has Rey been The Batman? Santino is actually starting to sound like WCW era Jericho? With the wrong names and so on? Anyway, random thought path over.
I’ve had an idea. JBL feels he is limited in the ring now.
Raw needs a GM.

I have to say this though. The crowd, which was red hot all night, seemed to completely go flat when Cody and Ted came out. Possibly something to do with the GODAWFUL music!
But, this feud has left me slightly confused. How the hell is Hardcore Holly supposed to come back from this without a tag team partner? Or is he completely out of this now?
Time enough for some quick random thoughts now.

Jamie Noble, funny guy =) Hopefully this isn’t the burial of him on Raw. I think he would’ve been better on ECW.
I do indeed love Y2J(aded)’s new Save_Me gimmick. I think it’s hilarious and he looks like he’s going to have some real fun. I’m having trouble defining him right now, because for one he’s not playing his usual cocky heel, he’s more just flat out badass. I’m just left wondering what exactly he’s planning on taking from HBK……
Was actually a very good match, but with a stupid ending. That’s the first time I’ve seen a DQ for tight pulling. Normally it’s just the pin is broken up….
Now, here is where I find my biggest fault with the night, the fact that both of Punk’s title matches, he needed someone’s help. Batista in the first, Cena and Cryme Tyme in the second.
I’m just hoping this isn’t the only involvement Cryme Tyme have in this, otherwise, their assistance seems fairly pointless.
