ECW Press authors win prestigious award for wrestling journalism
Toronto. June 24, 2008. ECW Press is pleased to congratulate wrestling writers Greg Oliver and Steven Johnson on their winning the James C. Melby Journalism Award.
The award honors the pair for their many contributions to professional wrestling journalism and is presented by the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum. The presentation will take place as part of the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame weekend in Waterloo, Iowa, on Saturday, June 28.
The James C. Melby Journalism Award is named after the well-known wrestling historian who died in February 2007.
“Jim Melby was one of my favorite people, and a researcher who was always willing to help others out,” said Oliver, 37 of Toronto. “It’s a thrill to be considered even in the same league as him.”
“Jim set the standard for serious wrestling journalism, and the best way to honor him is to write fairly and accurately with respect for the business he loved,” said Johnson, 51, a reporter who lives in Virginia.
Oliver and Johnson have co-written three books together for ECW Press: The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: The Tag Teams, The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: The Heels, and Benoit: Wrestling with the Horror That Destroyed a Family and Crippled a Sport (with Heath McCoy and Irv Muchnick). Oliver is also the author of The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: The Canadians.
ECW Press is one of the most diversified independent publishers in North America. ECW books are distributed throughout the English-speaking world and have been translated into dozens of languages.
