I could easily go through Raw’s entire show, but man am I livid, that’s right my sweetness streak came to an end last night after watching a Raw crapfest. I am so pissed that I probably shouldn’t even be writing this until I settle down, but what the hell I know whether you agree with me or not, you guys will understand. There was only one major highlight of the night and one decent build up of the night but other than what I just mentioned the rest of the show was a dud. So let me start with the fantastic highlight of the show then the next thing that I thought played out fairly well and then it’s all about the MONAY!!!!
Okay so when Chris Jericho returned in November it wasn’t that exciting return that we hoped it would be. But that’s all forgotten now because as I’ve said many times before once Jericho got in with Shawn Michaels the Y2J that we all loved to watch came back and he’s better than ever. Hey if I were a wrestler on Raw, I would beg Vince to let me do a program with Shawn Michaels. It seems like Michaels is Gold. Anyone who works with him comes off looking like a true superstar. Any program HBK is in seems like 9 out of 10 times rules the shows and just makes the fans want to see more of the feud. And that certainly is the case with this HOT feud between Jericho and Michaels. Come on we all knew that it was just a matter of time before Jericho turned on his “mentor”, his “friend” the guy he grew up watching. Oh Chris was totally full of it last night and what a way to get back at Shawn for lying to him about being injured than taking Michaels out and accenting the attack with a nice toss into the Jeritron. This was just fantastic and I knew as soon as this segment took place nothing was going to top it and I was right.
The only other highlight for me was the build up with John Cena and Triple H. I could have done without another JBL/Cena match but Hunter did a very nice job putting Cena over and of course I liked the ending when Hunter took the legs right out from Cena on the announce table. I thought that was a cool way to heat things up. And the main event with Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy was a good match. I have few things to say about this main event and I will after I blast the low rated show that gave away a million dollars. I see that the ratings dropped gee I wonder why? Was it because the give away turned into the focus of the show and anything else that had nothing to do with the million dollars was just second rate? I am still so ticked off by the way all this was handled.
I don’t care that Vince screwed up a few times because he seemed nervous that didn’t bother me. What bothered me is they have a pay per view in three weeks but that wasn’t important. Each time Vince would casually announce a match or the Highlight Reel I just couldn’t believe how he made nothing out of these segments because THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH GIVING AWAY MONEY. My heart not only broke for the fans that were there live and sitting through all the garbage phone calls, but my heart broke for all of us sitting and watching at home and wondering why this stuff has to take up so much of the show. It wasn’t bad enough that just about after each match Vince made a phone call to a fan, it was just ridiculous to end the main event with one more call. To me the main event should have been the last thing that we got, not some one winning more money. Hey don’t get me wrong Vince giving away money is sweet, but the sweetness quickly turns into bitterness when he makes this the focal point of the show.
As I said ratings dropped from last week and if Vince is shocked by that just wait until next week. I’m predicting that since this crap is going to take place again more viewers are going to turn away from Raw. I have felt for several months that week after week we have gotten some pretty good shows, and to go to this extreme to get people to watch is absurd. Last night’s fiasco hurt the show a lot. Listen I expect a company that is on it’s last leg to try a stunt like this, but Vince being the so called genius that he is should have been able to come up with a ratings winner. Hey I’m not saying WWE is losing the majority of their fans because they aren’t, but when you use a stunt like Million Dollar Mania Vince does stand to turn away fans that might have stuck it out for a while.
I feel that we had something good going with Kennedy/Burchill. But that match was so rushed it wasn’t even funny. Why in the hell did we have to sit through a Snitzky/Umaga vs. Bob Holly/Cody Rhodes match? Why put Umaga/Snitzky in there at all? Oh maybe it was done so the fans would think; gee I wish we could have more money segments instead of matches like this. The women’s match with Mickie vs. Beth Phoenix again seemed rushed and worthless. Cryme Tyme vs. Carlito and Santino again rushed like most of the other matches and again it was just thrown together. Last night’s Raw was about the money, and so little about feuds and matches. I’m angry that as I said earlier Raw as been doing well and I guess Mr. McMahon felt it was time to really F it up. Granted with the draft two weeks away I think feuds are being put on hold until the draft is over, but there have been drafts in the past and I don’t remember anything taking over matches like this giveaway did last night.
I hope to God next week Vince figures out a better way to give the money out without it over powering everything else on the show. And I would rather have a wrestler give the dough away than Vince. There needs to be a little more levity and a lot less Vince. Also why not quickly thank the winner for watching and make it a little personal. Of course I would prefer that this contest would end NOW. Okay I’m not quite done with my rant. Two years ago when Hunter and Cena interacted for the first time before Wrestlemania Hunter put Cena down by making fun of his finishing move, and saying that Cena couldn’t wrestle. Triple H basically said what so many of us thought about him. And when this was done Hunter caught nothing but crap for his promo. So last night they have Hunter putting this guy over. He talked about his strengths and how Cena never gives up. Hunter wasn’t gushing over the guy but he said all he could to make Cena sound like one tough guy.
So now Triple H is getting ripped for being so complimentary to Cena, and he’s also getting ripped for dominating Jeff Hardy last night. I just don’t get some fans. If he blasts Cena he’s wrong and it’s funny that so many seem to have forgotten that Jeff Hardy was suspended twice in less than a year and maybe just maybe Vince isn’t ready to give the guy full reign. Also Hunter is the WWE champion and being dominated by Hardy in my opinion would not be the thing to do, unless the feud was between these two. I thought the main event was good and even though Hardy didn’t get much offense on Hunter, he sure got it where it counted when he ended Raw by doing a Plancha on Cena and Triple H. I don’t think Jeff Hardy looked week at all in this main event and with him getting the upper hand on both men there are a few out there that think he might be the guest ref for Cena/Triple H at Night of Champions. I’m even wondering if this Cena/ Hunter match might turn into a triple threat match with Hardy included.
Last night was just such an off night as far as I’m concerned. I hate bitching like this but it was that or not write a column. But if I let this column go, then my poor husband and son would have had to put up with me. Well they are kind of putting up with me, they have both told me to chill and wait until next week. And I think I will chill once I post this. I have a feeling that ECW tonight will turn out to be a much better show than last night’s Raw. In fact it’s got one thing in its favor NO MILLION DOLLAR GIVEAWAY. I will return this weekend and hopefully I will have calmed down and my new streak of niceness will start up again.
