AFL HEAVYWEIGHT RON SPARKS WANTS A SLICE OF KIMBO
LEXINGTON, KY – During the American Fight League “BulletProof “ event in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday, May 30, 2008, newly signed AFL heavyweight, Ron Sparks, called out Elite XC fighter, Kimbo Slice, and challenged him, and any other top MMA heavyweight, to a bout.
Speaking from inside the cage at intermission, Sparks said, “I am really proud to be part of the American Fight League team. From my perspective, the MMA heavyweight division isn’t well represented at all. Most people view heavyweights as lazy, out of shape, thugs because that’s the image other MMA leagues promote.”
Sparks continued, “AFL is giving me the opportunity to change the face of the heavyweight division, to show that we are true, professional athletes, not just a bunch of punks pounding away on scrubs.” Sparks added, “I am ready to face the best in the world, and challenge Elite XC or any other MMA organization to send me their top heavyweight fighter. Kimbo Slice, come and get me!”
When asked about Sparks’ comments during a post-event interview session, AFL CEO, BJ Santiago, had this to say. “I think it is pretty clear what Ron meant by his comments. He is looking to bring legitimacy to the heavyweight division and AFL is giving him the opportunity to do so,” said Santiago. “The AFL is very open to interleague competition. We would love to place our best fighters against Elite XC or any other MMA organization.”
