Presidential candidate Republican Sen. John McCain and Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama have responded to WWE’s Smackdown Your Vote! 18-30 VIP [Voter Issues Paper]. Earlier this month, Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary “Hill Rod” Clinton, was the first of the candidates to respond to our VIP, an initiative designed to improve the dialogue with voters between the ages of 18 to 30.
WWE continues to successfully bring the political arena to the forefront of our fans’ minds; last month, Sen. Clinton, Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain individually addressed our fans on Raw. And WWE is the only company to offer the candidates a VIP that addresses the issues most important to young voters today.
Sen. McCain believes lower taxes and less regulation will unleash growth in the private sector, while Sen. Obama believes that investing in America through the rebuilding of roads and bridges is the path to future economic growth. Both candidates see technology focused on improving the environment and alternative energy sources as a driver of jobs for young adults.
As for the war in Iraq, Sen. McCain believes the U.S. cannot walk away from the Iraqi people in a “reckless, irresponsible, and premature withdrawal.” Sen. Obama favors a 16-month strategic withdrawal of troops directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government.
According to Sen. Clinton’s response, she believes the greatest potential regarding new jobs for younger voters lies in alternative energy, innovation, infrastructure and public sector jobs. On health care, Sen. Clinton said universal health care was a critical priority because too many young people without insurance face the prospects of dire economic circumstances if they get sick. On education, Sen. Clinton said she had proposed a comprehensive plan to make college more affordable and accessible.
