All the drama is in the Octagon this week on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rampage vs Team Forrest as four fighters attempt to grab two of the remaining spots in the quarterfinals.
After Dan Cramer’s win last week, Team Rampage has control for the first time this season, and coach Quinton Jackson selects Gerald Harris, who ‘Rampage’ calls his ‘Mini-Me’, to face inexperienced Team Forrest member Amir Sadollah, who has yet to engage in a professional MMA fight.
Tulsa’s Harris, 7-2 as a pro, immediately capitalizes on his edge in experience as he immediately shoots in and takes Sadollah down to the mat. This pattern continues throughout the first round as Harris pulls ahead behind some thunderous slams and effective ground and pound.
Sadollah remains game, but the second round continues in the same familiar pattern. Slowly but surely though, Sadollah is starting to get closer with his strikes, and midway through the second round, he lands with a right knee to the head that drops Harris. A follow-up barrage by Sadollah brings in referee Josh Rosenthal to stop the fight, a decision that doesn’t sit well with Harris, who feels like he has let his family down with the defeat while insisting that he wasn’t out when the bout was halted.
Now Team Forrest is back in control, and they send another MMA rookie, 0-0 Cale Yarbrough into battle against 7-1-1 New Englander Patrick Schultz. The two promise a standup war, and in the first round they don’t disappoint. It’s Schultz’ right hand that makes most of the noise though, as he drops Yarbrough with it and continues to tag him throughout much of the round. Yarbrough returns fire with some effective kicks, but it appears that Schultz has taken the opening five minutes.
The second round is all Yarbrough, as he takes his foe down 45 seconds into the stanza and keeps him there behind his ground and pound assault. By the end of the round, Schultz looks to be close to defeat, but his corner preps him for what looks to be a third ‘sudden victory’ round.
It’s not to be though, as the judges render a majority decision for Yarbrough, prompting an angry response from Jackson, who tells his opposing coach and future opponent Griffin, “I’ll betcha our fight don’t go to a decision. I’ll bet my purse on it.”
After this week’s action, Team Forrest grabs two more wins to improve to 6-1.
