It is so nice to get such positive feedback about last night’s Raw. Hell I loved the show too. I think Raw got off to a great start with the opening segment and even the weakest segment of the show I was able to tolerate. I will admit I was confused by two of the wrestlers characters last night and I also question why another WWE superstar came off the way he did but I’m telling you I really did like this show a lot. Let me just get right to one of the most entertaining Raw in a while.
As I said Raw kicked things off with a very good segment. I’m talking about Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel with his guest The Big Show. This segment not only made Jericho come off well, but Big Show never looked better while interacting with Y2J. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between these two. But this is where I started becoming a little confused. I couldn’t tell if Jericho was playing the face or heel against Big Show. And that holds for Show as well. It’s like creative doesn’t know what to do with the Big Show since the crowd has embraced him instead of his opponent for Wrestlemania, Floyd Mayweather. And, if Jeff Hardy wasn’t suspended was Chris Jericho going to turn heel? I figured that’s exactly what was going to happen, but last night it was like should we turn Jericho a full fledged heel or maybe make him a tweener. But whatever the case, Big Show and Chris Jericho really set the tone for a terrific show. And the Lafayette, Louisiana crowd was just as HOT as last night’s show.
The first match of the night caught my eye IMMEDIATELY. As many of you know there was a big rumor out a few weeks ago that Carlito and CM Punk have real heat against each other because Carlito supposedly was flirting with Maria in front of her then boyfriend Punk. So these two do not get along. I could not wait to see this match and I have to say I really liked it. First I was thrilled to see Punk on Raw, and second I thought these two had very good chemistry with each other. I remember the Rock and Triple H were never friends but man you put them in a ring and that chemistry was instant. I was amazed just how good these two worked together in the ring and I thought this was a very hard worked match and one of the best of the night. Raw gave us two funny celebrity segments last night. The first was with Snoop Dog reading off cue cards about how Maria should have listened to her boyfriend instead of showing her boobies. All of a sudden Snoop Dog refuses to read anymore, and Santino steps in front of the camera holding the cue cards. This was the first of two Santino segments that made me laugh last night. The other came later and you can bet I will talk about it. Okay the other segment was with Kim Kardashian.
Now this is a woman that normally does nothing for me but her little promo came off funny because she was talking about only the coolest and hippest people will be at Wrestlemania, and none other than Big Dick Johnson appears in his thong. Hey it doesn’t take much to make me laugh. The next match at first I guess you could say bothered me because it was Umaga vs. London and Kendrick and you just knew that these guys were going to get squashed. And that’s just what happened. BUT, this turned out really rather well because we got a little extra bonus. And I’m talking about a badly beaten up Brian Kendrick ditching his friend and tag team partner Paul London in the ring. After Kendrick got his beating from Umaga, he managed to get up and with the look of disgust on his face walk away from London. And of course Umaga was not done with London. So it looks like Kendrick and London are going solo. This could be a good angle if it’s done right and I would love to see both of these guy get on air time on a regular basis. So the squash turned out okay. Last night Hunter it was Hunter’s turn to take charge and I thought his backstage segment with William Regal was perfect. I’ll tell you why. Hunter came in as Regal was watching the Umaga match and Regal smiled as he told Hunter Kendrick just walked out on London. Regal then said that’s what he would do if he was Randy Orton on John Cena and Hunter said they couldn’t do that. And this is when it got good. Hunter said if Cena walks out he’s out of the main event at Wrestlemania, and if Orton walks out Hunter will strip him of the belt. Regal then said you can’t do that and then TRIPLE H CAME BACK WITH, oh yes I can you put me in charge. See it all made sense and Hunter was able to back it all up with just that comeback. I also liked the fact that Regal then questioned why not just strip Orton of the belt now and Hunter again had a good answer. He said he was handed the belt and it’s not satisfying and it’s not fun. He plans to take it Wrestlemania. This was segment that was done by the book.
Earlier in the show Vince McMahon did a taped promo about how wonderful he is. He named all the great things happening to him, like getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of fame, that WW stock is going up and so on. So Vince decided that HE would be the guy that retires Ric Flair. That we would get a Flair vs. McMahon street fight. Okay so a little later on Flair and Shawn Michaels are backstage and Flair is up in arms that HBK is there since he doesn’t have a match tonight. Flair was very excitable and told Michaels not to get involved that he is his own man and that Vince has no chance in hell of wining. Flair then stormed off and Shawn just stood there. Hey didn’t you just know that HBK wasn’t going to stay away? Okay now the weakest segment last night for me was JBL’s. Now, I thought his promo was fine; it was a good way to heat things up with Finlay. But, his beat down of Colin Delaney was uneventful. When Delaney came out there was no reaction at all. That made me think that very few in the crowd watch ECW. So JBL dominating him really wasn’t the same as Finlay last week beating the crap out of Mr. Kennedy.. Kennedy. This wasn’t a miserable segment but as I said it was the weakest of the night.
I have to tell you I never dreamed that I would love the Street Fight with Ric Flair vs. Vince McMahon. This was such a crowd pleaser and this seems to be the match that most of you are raving about in your emails. While I hated to see Vince dominating Ric Flair as much as he did, this still was action packed. Ric Flair has been working his ass off in the last few months. I guess when he does retire he wants to go out on top and no one will be able to say that he took shortcuts near the end of his run. The guy never seizes to amaze me. But back to the match, just as Vince was going to get a three count, Shawn Michaels ran in and pulled the Ref out of the ring. I cannot wait to see what Flair will say about that next week. Hey did we need this match? No, but listen it was outstanding and trust me I never thought I would be saying that when I heard Vince booked it.
Candice Michelle and Maria vs. Jillian Hall and Victoria was another match that I thought was really good. I was pleased by all four women, however watching Candice work her first match since her return was a shocker to me. She showed no ring rust and was really on her game. I did notice at the end that she was holding her arm against her side and I knew something wasn’t good. I’m sure most of you have seen that she did injure herself last night and WWE.com is reporting she might have reinjured clavicle she broke several months ago. WWE will post an update later, but it’s really sad that she just comes back and she’ll probably miss more time. Okay now while this match was going on Mr. Comedian came out to sit next to JR and Jerry Stupid Lawler. And before he sat there JR and Lawler interviewed Subway Subs famous thin guy Jared. He as sandwiches for Jerry Lawler and now back to Santino. So we have Santino sitting out there and doing what he does so well TALK and after the women’s match Santino throws a drink on Lawler and runs. But he then runs back grabs the Subway sandwich and leaves. This is something that was a riot and reading it doesn’t do Santino justice if you saw it you know what I mean and if you missed it you really need to see it. Santino is just a breath of fresh air for this company and I’m happy to say so far he’s coming off fresh each week and not stale and I hope that continues.
So I told you I was starting to get confused with Big Show and Jericho’s characters during the opener. Well let me tell you their match for the I.C.title only made my brain hurt more. The match itself was good, not great but good, but what I had a problem with was that I thought Big Show was definitely the face against a heel Jericho. I know I am making more out of it then there is but I guess I would like to know what’s what. On Smakdown, Big Show destroyed Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore, yet last night Jericho had all the makings of the heel that Big Show is supposed to have. So go figure. Like I said I know I’m over doing it here and believe me I’m not as put out as this might sound. And now for the main event with John Cena and Randy Orton taking on 17 guys from the Raw Roster. I did like the match but there were a few things that I really question. For instance why did Randy Orton and John Cena work so well together? Granted they had to stay in the match or Orton would lose the belt and Cena would lose the main event spot at Wrestlemania. But they worked so well together in fact too well together that I would have rather have seen some tension and mis-trust going on. Cena should have nothing but HATE for being injured by Orton and for the way Orton kicked his father in the head. Yet they seemed to totally be on the same page through out the match. Also it kind of bothered me that most of the guys were taken out fairly fast. Like it was no challenge to take on 17 men. Now as I said I really did like the match even with all the things that bothered me. And the ending with Hunter coming out made sense to me. He let the Raw 17 do all the dirty work and the pedigree he gave Cena and Orton was the icing on the cake for him.
I absolutely loved the show and I’m looking forward to Smackdown and even ECW this week. Now before I go I have two requests from readers. But before I do that I just want to say that my heart breaks for Jeff Hardy on the loss of his house burning down. He lost everything including memorabilia from his career and his pet dog. This is just so tragic and I hope he can bounce back from this and from his 60-day suspension. My heart goes out to him. Okay now if anyone you can help my two readers I would appreciate it. I was unable to watch last week’s three hour Raw. Would anyone happen to know where I could catch the show? Could you email me at dx1149@yahoo.com, thank you for your help. Here’s the next request. On the latest edition of Raw (the Wrestlemania rewind one) the U.S. Express came out to face Nikolai Volkoff and the Iron Sheik. I was wondering if someone knows who else used the music that was used by the U.S. Express. Please email me at the_crippler22@hotmail.com. With that I will be back over the weekend to talk about Smackdown and I hope you will listen to me Saturday night, 9:15pm eastern time at http://www.mywcwp.com.
