In the newest edition of “Kurt Angle…idiot,” Kurt was on the Scott Ferrell show yesterday on Sirius. No, Kurt wasn’t continuing his rhetoric that TNA can overtake the WWE. Kurt now said he would like to make his MMA debut against Randy Couture. Get the door Kurt, the doctors are here to commit you.
Most people within the pro wrestling industry have entertained themselves over the last year and a half since Kurt Angle left the WWE. Angle has done numerous media interviews since joining TNA Wrestling last year. The biggest guarantee you can get from Kurt Angle is that he is bound to give you a gem with every interview. Yesterday’s claim of Kurt wanting to fight Randy Couture was just one of many “Kurt Angle…idiot” moments.
Kurt has been on this MMA kick since leaving the WWE. Dana White and several other promoters have called bullsh*t on Kurt’s desire to get into MMA. The word on this story is that several promoters have made more than adequate offers to Kurt to fight in MMA. Kurt has continued to find excuse after excuse as to why he won’t take the fights. Kurt Angle is an Olympic gold medalist, but that was also twelve years ago. Since 1995, Kurt has had numerous neck injuries which would make the risk of an MMA fight insane. Hey, I can tell you I want to fight Brock Lesnar too and find every excuse in the world not to take the fight.
First of all, I have to wonder how many athletic commissions would even license Kurt Angle. Kurt will be 40 this year and has had numerous injuries throughout his lifetime. Yes, Kurt did win the gold medal with a broken neck but his injuries are much more than a broken neck. Many within the WWE feared that Kurt was risking paralysis every time he stepped into a pro wrestling ring. Could you imagine what the training alone could do to this man’s body?
Kurt’s statements about Randy could be interpreted as an open challenge. Randy Couture is one of the greatest fighters of all-time. Couture just signed a deal with HD Net, Mark Cuban’s MMA promotion. Cuban has the resources to make this fight happen, but so does UFC. I can almost guarantee that you will never see Kurt Angle inside of an MMA ring with anyone other than Brock Lesnar. I don’t see the Lesnar fight happening, but I can’t see him taking a fight with anyone else.
I think Kurt Angle is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all-time. Kurt’s contributions to the pro wrestling business are without question. However, Kurt has continued to embarrass himself with these ridiculous statements since leaving the WWE. Nobody wants to laugh at Kurt, but he just makes it too easy. Kurt Angle is great inside of the ring, but outside of the ring he has turned into a big joke.
By the way, Kurt Angle wouldn’t stand a chance against Randy Couture.
