John Bradshaw Layfield has plenty on his plate these days.
His company, Layfield Energy, has just launched a virility energy drink, MamaJuana Energy.
And he’ll step between the ropes for a treacherous Elimination Chamber match, alongside Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho and Umaga at tomorrow’s WWE No Way Out.
“I’ve never been in an Elimination Chamber match. I hate it already,” he says. “Nothing in that chamber gives. It’s a matter of knowing you’re going to get dinged up.”
Okay, so he’s a bit nervous about the chamber, but he’s downright giddy when talking about the energy drink, which is out in the U.S. and waiting for approval in Canada. It’s more than your normal energy drink, though.
“The Dominicans call it liquid viagra,” said Layfield. “You don’t need a prescription. It’s not for erectile dysfunction. It’s not for people who need it, it’s for people who want it.”
Layfield recently returned to the ring after plenty of time off. He’s thrilled to be back.
“I didn’t want to retire, I left because I was hurt,” he said. “I was put together with duct tape and baling wire. When I returned and the music was playing, people were booing … it was an awesome feeling.”
Layfield says latching onto the JBL character was natural.
“I’d wanted to do this character for a long time,” he said. “I was a big fan of J.R. Ewing, but I changed it to a stock market guy instead of an oil guy. I started in this business as a bad guy. I was never comfortable being a good guy.”
