Here in the states we have Super Tuesday. It’s supposed to be about 21 states holding primary elections for the presidential campaign. But this is all a lie it’s called Super Tuesday because today is my 54th birthday. Okay so I’m lying, it is my birthday but damn it Super Tuesday really is about voting. Okay enough of my pathetic humor and on to last night’s Raw.
I’m looking at feedback and for the most part the show is really getting ripped. I didn’t think the show was that bad to be honest with you. Of course there were some things that I didn’t like, but there was just enough to make me like the show very much. So let me get right into Raw’s bad and then Raw’s good segments.
I wasn’t going to leave the sound on last night when Cena and Orton opened up the show. But I did and while I was at my computer I listened to Orton and Cena talk about signing the contract. I noticed that John Cena said very little, which worked for me, and thankfully the whole segment was a fast one. My complaint about this segment was bringing in Mark Henry. I am so very sick of Henry being shoved down our throats on Smackdown and ECW, and now Raw. This guy has been on a massive losing streak, and for a guy that’s unbeatable and has been pushed as the World’s Strongest man, this poor guy is becoming the main jobber on all three brands. I could have done without a Mark Henry Raw appearance. And this all carried into that thing that ended the show, and by that I mean the arm wrestling contest with Henry vs. Cena. Now this I didn’t watch, I figured either Cena would beat Henry or Cena would find a way to get the upper hand on Henry and I was right. I heard JR make a big deal about Henry getting the F’U. Wow I’m sorry I missed that. No really I’m not sorry I missed that at all. Wait don’t get me wrong I’m totally impressed that Cena can lift a man of Henry’s size and F’U him, and I was also impressed when Cena F’Ud Big Show into the announce table, I was even impressed when Khali and Umaga got their F’U’s too, but that one move doesn’t make a wrestler. I need more than a HUGE guy getting the F’U every now and then. So I was impressed to hear it, but I don’t regret not watching all of this.
I can’t get into the tag team duo of Bob Holly and Cody Rhodes. I think WWE missed the boat with these guys. I feel that they tried to get something going early on when Holly was beating the crap out of Cody week after week. But once they became tag team partners, the script ended and like so many other WWE stars they now just come out wrestle and leave, and because of that the whole thing comes off very flat. Their match with Cade/Murdoch was just a match that we have seen over and over again. And the whole daddy Vince thing is bad; it ran its course months ago. I will say Vince getting his ass buffed up was funny; it was something you might see happen on a cartoon, other than that anything last night dealing with Vince stunk. And finally even though I have seen a nice improvement with Mr. Kennedy….Kennedy, his match against Super Crazy was a waste of time. Talk about putting the crowd to sleep this was a real snoozer.
But, there were some guys that were able to save the show, and I’m talking about Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho and even JBL and Umaga. Okay now first, I loved Shawn Michaels short promo about winning the Elimination Chamber match. He had some funny lines, including the one about singing his own theme song. Shawn was an absolute pleasure last night as was Chris Jericho. It was nice seeing him in there along with Shawn and then adding Jeff Hardy just topped things off. I though JBL was excellent with his promo about buying off Umaga to help him headline Wrestlemania, and then you had Umaga come out not utter a word, but just gave JBL a look that seemed to scare the hell out of him. This was all done very well, the only drawback was brining in Snitzky to replace a missing Triple H. I never would have done that. Again it’s Vince just tossing him in because he’s one of Vince’s BIG GUYS. This segment should have been with the five chamber participants and the main event could have been Umaga and JBL vs. the three faces, and believe me that would have worked very well. This was one of my favorite segments of the show even with Snitzky in it.
I happened to thoroughly enjoy Santino and Carlito vs. London and Kendrick. This match had the makings of being one of the best of the night, but it was unfortunately rushed. I also thought that Mickie and Kelly Kelly vs. Victoria and Beth Phoenix was okay. No it wasn’t a masterpiece but it turned out to be entertaining for me. But the main event was my match of the night. This was so much fun to watch and I loved it. You have to admit having Hardy, Jericho and HBK on one team is pretty damn cool. I thought these guys all worked so well together and against the heels it all just flowed so beautifully. This match was excellent and the ending with Jeff Hardy getting the pin made me think that this man isn’t “dead” yet as far as the title goes. He is still so over and it seems like out of all the guys in the main event the focus was definitely on Jeff. This was just a terrific match and I can’t wait to see more of these chamber guys next week on Raw.
So as you can see, I liked the show for the most part, I have certainly seen much worse. I will be back over the weekend with my thoughts on Smackdown, and maybe if I’m lucky Mark Henry will be on the show and job to Taker again. All right enough of my nastiness, I want to thank many of you that sent me online birthday cards, I really liked them, it’s a nice treat to receive them.
