CORPUS CHRISTI — See the sweat fly. Watch the slams. Hear the crowd rumble. Find out who will break when WWE stars hit American Bank Center arena on Tuesday.
Montel Vontavious Porter, aka MVP, promises fans it will not be him.
“I am an icon in this industry,” he said. “Fans in Corpus Christi will miss out on history if they don’t come to the show.”
This live Smackdown and ECW event promises an evening of entertainment, and according to MVP, watching the event in person is an experience.
“Everybody in Corpus Christi should treat themselves to this event,” MVP said. “It’s an amazing good time.”
WWE has invested more than $20 million in technology to make these events even more incredible and now have new sets, MVP said.
He made clear the best reason fans should come to the show — to see him.
“Everyone deserves a brush with greatness,” MVP said. “That’s worth the price of the ticket alone.”
MVP loves his job and the sport. When asked, “If money were no object, what would you be doing for a living?” his reply is simple.
“Even if I won the $100 million Power Ball, or even $100 billion, I would still do this job,” he said. “I truly love it.”
Signing Porter with the WWE was not easy. According to his bio on WWE’s Web site, MVP was hyped by his agents as “the most talented free agent in the game” and was in high demand from organizations all over the sports-entertainment world.
After MVP made it clear to WWE, “No contract, no contact,” he was signed with Smackdown in September 2006.
Known to be flashy and cocky, MVP has picked up victories over such superstars as The Big Red Monster, Kane.
To stay on top, MVP keeps a strict schedule and sticks to a regimented diet most of the time but he said everyone deserves a splurge now and then.
His favorite? Pizza.
“I love it,” MVP said. “Pepperoni, mushroom and cheese is the best.”
Along with MVP, Tuesday’s event will include Smackdown superstars such as Batista, Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker, Edge, The Great Khali, Kane, Chavo Guerrero and Mark Henry. Favorite ECW Superstars will include CM Punk, John Morrison, The Miz, Tommy Dreamer and Big Daddy V. Tuesday night’s card is subject to change.
