It will be a homecoming for Dylan Postl when World Wrestling Entertainment comes to Oshkosh in early March.
Postl, an Oshkosh native and a rising star with the WWE, will be part of the WWE professional wrestling card March 8 at Kolf Sports Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
A 4-foot-4, 115-pound dynamo whose wrestling name is “Hornswoggle,” Postl started with the WWE nearly two years ago and was originally known as “The Little Bastard.” He’s a regular on WWE’s televised events, Monday Night Raw and SmackDown!
Postl’s father, Eric, said he’s “extremely proud” of his son’s ascent in the WWE. He remembers the times when his son took part in backyard wrestling in Oshkosh and small wrestling circuits.
“When he hit the big time I couldn’t believe it,” Eric Postl said. “I think one of his biggest fans is his grandpa Postl. He watches every week religiously.”
He said his son, a 2004 graduate of Oshkosh West High School, sent a demo tape to WWE, and following a tryout or two, was offered a contract to wrestle.
Officials from the WWE said other matches slated for Kolf include Rey Mysterio, Batista and Kane versus Edge, Zach Ryder and Curt Hawkins. The wrestling card also includes MVP, Finlay, Chavo Guerrero, CM Punk and Mark Henry.
The WWE event is a fundraiser for the UW-Oshkosh athletic department, said Al Ackerman, athletic director for UW-Oshkosh. More than 6,500 seats at Kolf are available for the event. WWE was last in Oshkosh about 14 years ago.
“We’re excited about having the WWE back,” Ackerman said. “They put on a good show and it attracts a lot of people to the university.”
Ackerman said tickets go on sale Saturday, Feb. 9 through Ticket Star at (920) 494-3401 or (800) 895-0071. Ticket prices include $40 for reserved seating and general admission starting at $20.
