Today’s edition of the Arizona Republic is reporting that World Wrestling Entertainment officials have been in talks with representatives from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz, for WWE WrestleMania 2010 to take place at the stadium. The University of Phoenix Stadium is the home of the Arizona Cardinals NFL team and officials from WWE have already had a tour of the retractable roof stadium that holds up to 73,000 people, to evaluate the possibility of holding WWE WrestleMania 2010 there.
Global Spectrum, which promotes big concerts and sporting events, including this year’s WWE WrestleMania 24 Orlando, are currently working on a written proposal for WWE and Univ. of Phoenix stadium officials. Only in a few months we will see a decision being made as one isn’t expected soon. A Global Spectrum spokesman, Scott Norton said, “It’s certainly not a done deal but we’ve had some good dialogue”.
Reports of WWE WrestleMania 2010 being held outside of Phoenix began when current Phoenix Coyotes coach and legendary hockey player Wayne Gretzky was photographed wearing a “WrestleMania 2010: Destruction in the Desert” promotional t-shirt. Wayne Gretzky said that he liked the t-shirt, so he kept it. The photo of Wayne Gretzky wearing the WWE WrestleMania 26 promotional t-shirt can be seen at this link.
