XWA GOLDRUSH – MORE NAMES ADDED
Seven more XWA stars have been added to the line-up for the prestigious Goldrush 15-man rumble on Saturday, February 2 at The Morecambe Dome, to join ‘The Psychotic Warrior’ Johnny Phere, Sam Slam and ‘Mr Deal or No Deal’ Stevie Knight. And they are as follows:
‘The Shamrock Superman’ Keego Ward
Making his XWA debut will be the bald-headed, hot-tempered and egotistical star of Irish Whip Wrestling, Keego Ward. ‘The Shamrock Superman’ is an unknown quantity who is desperate to impress and cause a huge upset on his first appearance at The Dome.
El Ligero
The current British Flyweight Champion will do double-duty at the Goldrush as he first hopes to defend his newly-won gold in a four-way elimination match against Ross Jordan, Spud and The Juice, and will then try to earn himself a British Heavyweight Title shot into the bargain.
Ashley Steel
The popular and versatile head of the XWA’s ring crew will get the chance of a lifetime when he enters the Goldrush. The blonde-haired star from Hereford – who debuted at Battle of Britain – has quickly earned himself quite a following in Morecambe.
‘The Bombay Dream’ Ross Jordan
This will be the fourth consecutive Goldrush appearance for the ‘Crown Prince of Bollywood’ and, as an experienced campaigner in these matches, he has to be considered a dark horse to win.
‘Dangerous’ Damon Leigh
The man who claims to be ‘The Best of the North West’ will be a competitor to be underestimated at any opponent’s peril. DDL – who was one of the final four in Goldrush 2006 – has the size and the ruthlessness to be a match for anyone.
The Juice
This relentless flyweight from Southport, Merseyside is like a buzzsaw. He never stops coming at his opponent, is as tenacious as they come and it will take a Herculean effort for anyone to remove him from the ring.
Joey Hayes
One half of The Manchester Massive, Joey is one of the big fan favourites in the XWA and will be looking to improve on his previous two disappointing Goldrush performances. As one of the North West’s true up-and-comers, he must have an outside chance.
We will announce the final five entrants to the Goldrush – where the winner receives a British Heavyweight Championship match at War On The Shore – The Anniversary Show on Saturday April 12 – in due course.
KNIGHT CHALLENGES SLAM
Following news that both Sam Slam and ‘The Shining Light’ Stevie Knight will be in the Goldrush 15-man rumble on Saturday, February 2, we understand that Knight has made a challenge to the man he’s claimed he will never fight again.
The self-proclaimed ‘Mr Deal or No Deal’ says that if Sam Slam is the “tough guy he claims to be”, he will agree to face a hand-picked opponent of Stevie’s choosing in a one-on-one match, immediately BEFORE the Goldrush rumble takes place on February 2.
Now any fool can see the method behind Knight’s challenge, in that he hopes his chosen adversary – whom he will probably pay handsomely with the remainder of his Deal or No Deal game show winnings – will take ‘The Secret Weapon’ out so he will be in no fit state to wrestle in the Goldrush…leaving the path clearer for Stevie to try to become number one contender to the British Heavyweight Title.
But if we know Sam Slam, he will be more than willing to accept the challenge and meet head-on whomever Stevie Knight throws in his direction. We await to see exactly who ‘The Shining Light’ has lined up to face Morecambe’s hero.
‘CHAMPION’ PHERE GOES OFF HIS ROCKER
In the aftermath of the announcement that ‘The Psychotic Warrior’ Johnny Phere would be one of the participants in the Goldrush on Saturday, February 2, Phere contacted this website on New Year’s Eve in an even more deranged state of mind than usual.
The man who failed to win the British Heavyweight Title from ‘The Wonderkid’ Jonny Storm at Last Fight At The Prom was actually staying in Morecambe over New Year, and demanded our reporter meet him at The Dome for his first photo-shoot as the ‘British Heavyweight Champion’…something that he most definitely is not.
Our bewildered snapper agreed to Phere’s bizarre demand, and the result was one of the weirdest stories of 2007, the year – remember – that was supposed to be ‘The Year of Phere’.
Keep an eye on www.xwawrestling.com for the full feature story on what happened when Johnny Phere descended into deluded madness on New Year’s Eve, coming soon. Fighting Spirit magazine, we understand, are also interested in covering this incredible photo-shoot in their next issue…look out for more news coming soon.
