You know how I love to do a column on the latest rumors? Well today I wanted to take three quotes from three different wrestlers and throw in my two cents about what they had to say. And I would say the bitch mode is in full force with the first two quotes. Just remember I am only giving you my opinions, but when I read the following a few weeks ago I could not wait to get something out there about them. Okay here I go, let’s start with Test then Booker T and end with the WWE champion Randy Orton.
How many of you remember Test? Oh I’m sure most of you do. I know I will never forget him and believe me that’s not a compliment. I remember week after week from the time he started with the company until his first release, watching him was like having a constant toothache.
Not only could the guy not wrestle, but when it came to charisma Andrew Martin didn’t even know what that word meant. I just kept hoping that Vince would wise up and release him, but just like so many others Test’s push was not going to end and this push went on for many years. I remember reading that Test and Shane McMahon were tight and that was one of the reasons, maybe the main reason why Test was always on. You know when Test was released for the second time several months ago by WWE I was thrilled. I couldn’t understand why he was taken back after his first release. And when he put out a blog a few weeks ago I wasn’t even going to read it, however I thought I would skim it and I’m so glad I did.
Test came up with one brilliant quote, in fact not only was it brilliant, but I broke out laughing out loud. I am going to show you the quote, and just remember, in my opinion if he didn’t kiss ass he never would have lasted as long as he did. He sure didn’t make it in the business because the guy HAD IT, nope this guy didn’t even have it a little bit. Okay here’s the quote from Andrew Martin’s blog.
“I was told my problem was I never “kissed enough ass.” As we all know wrestling is not real and it is very political backstage and as a man I could never bring myself to consort with the people that I didn’t care for even if that meant making less money and not getting a world title. The world title is not real but my dignity was and I feel I never compromised it. I said “no” to Vince a few times which I was told is unheard of and the kiss of death. I personally don’t have bad things to say about Vince. I can appreciate what he’s done! I wonder what it’s like to have everyone [sic] who works for you tell you yes and your ideas are great because they are terrified about losing their job. I will never know nor do I want to.” And there you have, Test did prove me wrong, I guess he DOES have a great imagination and a sense of humor.
The next quote comes from WWE’s departed Booker T. This is kind of the latest rumor plus a quote made by Booker. Let’s see Booker T had a nice lengthy World title reign on Smackdown and his King Booker character might have gone on a little too long but along with his wife Queen Sharmell they were able to bring a lot to Smackdown. Now supposedly there has been a lot of tension between Booker T and Hunter and when Booker was moved to Raw last summer he wasn’t very happy. If you go by the rumor he wanted his Summer Slam match to be against Jerry the King Lawler not Triple H. I figured if that was true it was because Booker would get a victory over Lawler and not have to job to Hunter. And see that kind of thinking if that was indeed Booker’s thinking escaped me because Hunter was out 8 months. Was he supposed to lose his first match on a major pay per view? I don’t think anyone would expect one of the top guys in the company to lose their first match back, which is unless it’s Hunter. Because when it comes to Hunter many and I do mean many of his critics feel he should lose all the matches and put other guy’s over. Their famous line is, IT WON’T HURT HIM TO LOSE. YEAH he’s supposed to put everyone over and lose his matches. But anyway so things were set in motion as far as Booker’s unhappiness goes. It wasn’t very long after the Summer Slam loss that Booker was off TV, but it wasn’t because of the match it was because of the Signature pharmacy scandal listing a number of WWE wrestlers that were ordering illegal meds online.
As you know quite a few of the guys were suspended and since Booker’s name was on the list he too was in line for a suspension. But that suspension was what broke the camel’s back. According to Book, he did nothing wrong and well you will read what he has to say in his quote. Now who am I to say he’s lying about not being involved. But his reason for WWE suspending is so lame that it makes me just wonder if this wasn’t the perfect reason for him to get out of the company and sign with TNA. Rumors have it that he was in talks with TNA when he got traded to Raw so I think that maybe this scandal was the perfect way to say goodbye to WWE. Here’s Booker’s quote.
SLAM! Wrestling has an article with TNA wrestler Booker T regarding his departure from WWE. Booker believes that he was used as a scapegoat when the suspensions relating to Signature Pharmacy went down because they needed to suspend someone at ‘the top.’ “You can’t just pick out a bunch of guys who have no name and punish them,” Booker said. “You’ve got to have somebody in there with some credibility to give yourself some credibility.” Booker vehemently denies having any role in the drug scandal. “I had nothing to do with Signature Pharmacy, and I knew I hadn’t ordered anything online,” Booker said, referring to Signature’s use of various physicians and clinics to distribute orders placed through the internet. “I knew I wasn’t a part of that, and I relayed that to the company, and I wasn’t protected — they didn’t step up for me.” Booker is kind of like Test, full of humor. Could he be any more insulting by calling guys like Chavo, Mr. Kennedy, Helms, Edge and so on a bunch of guys who have no name and that’s why he was punished because he has the name? Oh yeah that makes all the sense in the world, well not to me but maybe to Booker it does.
Finally, the last quote is by Randy Orton. Orton was interviewed in the Australia Herald Sun. At the very beginning of the column they state upfront that “SUPERSTAR wrestler Randy Orton is in character. His minder warns Orton’s sullen and petulant behaviour is part of the act.” However many sites are saying that this interview is a total shoot. Okay so I’m thinking this is more of Orton the heel, however if it’s not then I would say that Mr. Orton has gotten quite gutsy. And when you see the quote just know that I do agree about Hunter, Shawn and Taker, they are up their in age which makes it harder to come back from certain injuries. And WWE definitely needs to start building for the future. But if Orton is shooting the only problem I have is that with all the trouble that he has caused in the past and all the second tries that he’s received I don’t feel he should be coming off so high and mighty. Now if John Cena said this it would not bother me because WWE is building around him in fact he’s the present and future of WWE. While Orton has stepped up and I have enjoyed him as the WWE champion, I just need to see Randy being a “good boy” for a while. I want to see him give his all to the business and then he can say what he wants. As I said I’m not taking this as a shoot but it could very well be one. Here’s what Randy said.
Q: What do you want to bring to the wrestling industry?
A: I’m young; I’m good at what I do. Hopefully, me being young and good at what I do opens the door for other people in this business who are at a young age and accelerating at a high rate. Talent like Mr. Kennedy, John Cena, Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, Brian Kendrick and Paul London.
I would like to take the game away from the guys in the over 40 club -Triple H, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker. It’s at the point where their bodies are so broken down; they can’t really hang with the younger guys. We have our injuries, we make our mistakes – personal and professional – and we learn from them. What I would like to bring to the industry is the next generation of men and women to represent athleticism, attitude, charisma, and the overall perception of being young talent as opposed to (laughs) old, balding talent. Balding talent? Is he talking about Hulk Hogan?
You know it really is nice to write again and be obnoxious; I sure missed that part of it too. Now in case you haven’t read the latest, Raw will be back in its regular time slot in February the night of the Westminster Dog Show. The USA network for the first time will end the dog show at 9 so Raw can air at its regular time, now this is big. I was so pleased to read this. Okay I will be back over the weekend with my Smackdown thoughts.
