GPW, XWA and Future-Shock Wrestling Present
NORTH WEST WEEKENDERS 2008
“There’s been so many phenomenal wrestlers from the North West down the years – The British Bulldogs, Marc ‘Rollerball’ Rocco, Marty Jones, William Regal, Johnny Saint, Jackie Robinson, Billy Riley of the famous Snake Pit gym in Wigan, Bert Royal, Vic Faulkner to name just a few– and we want to showcase the current generation who are following in these legends’ footsteps.” Greg Lambert, November 2007
Thanks to an agreement between three of the North West’s top wrestling promotions, UK wrestling fans will now have an even greater opportunity than ever before to see this current generation of top North West talent live and in person in 2008.
After receiving feedback from dedicated followers of wrestling in the North West of England, Garage Pro Wrestling, the XWA and Future-Shock Wrestling have synchronised their dates to ensure that North West wrestling fans, and those fans who travel all over the country to see live top quality professional wrestling on a regular basis, have as much opportunity as possible to see their favourite promotions – by ensuring that GPW (Fridays), XWA (Saturdays) and Future-Shock Wrestling (Sundays) will run shows on the same weekend as frequently as possible.
These weekend wrestling extravaganzas will be known as the North West Weekenders – they will take place in February, July and September of 2008, and on each occasion there will be three shows across three days for you to enjoy.
These shows will feature the current crop of talented young wrestling stars on what is a thriving and ever-growing North West scene, names such as Joey Hayes, Heresy, Johnny Phere, Dirk Feelgood, Dave Rayne, Simon Valour, Declan O’Connor, Bubblegum, Dangerous Damon Leigh, The Mil-Anfield Connection and many more.
You will also have the chance on these shows to watch these North West stars mix it with the very best of the rest of the UK scene, and find out exactly why there has never been a better time to be a British wrestling fan.
The three promotions involved in the North West Weekenders are:
Garage Pro Wrestling (GPW)
In 2008 Garage Pro Wrestling will celebrate its fifth birthday. Over the past five years GPW has produced some of the country’s best and most critically acclaimed wrestling shows. In the past two and a half years GPW have made huge strides and re-invented themselves with a new look and approach whilst promoting regular shows with addictive story lines and characters. With a host of some of the country’s current leading performers such as Joey Hayes, Damon Leigh, Heresy, Juice, Mil-Anfield Connection and TJ Cain to name a few that have emerged from GPW training school, along with a wealth of up and coming talent such as Chris Echo, Dylan Roberts, Mike Holmes and Juggernaut following in their footsteps, it is no wonder that GPW is one of the leading wrestling companies in the UK. Add to that the fabulous production values of the live events at their home of The Monaco Ballroom in Wigan, the electric atmosphere their storylines bring, along with a wonderful mix of characters and styles with not just their own talent but a roster of talent stretching the world over. It all makes for all GPW shows to be totally unmissable!!
The XWA
The XWA evolved from the former FWA, and remains one of Britain’s top professional wrestling companies. XWA is based at the 450-seater Morecambe Dome (billed as British Wrestling’s home) in the re-developing seaside town of Morecambe in Lancashire. Promoters Greg Lambert and Mark Kay have been running successful sell-out shows at the seafront venue – known for its incredible atmosphere – since April 2003, featuring some of the top international and UK wrestlers on the scene today. During that time, while under the promotion of Greg and Mark, The Dome played host to the FWA TV show on The Wrestling Channel and many memorable international contests including the likes of D-Lo Brown, Christopher Daniels, Juventud Guerrera and Naomichi Marufuji. Now as we enter 2008 and as Greg and Mark prepare to celebrate their fifth year as wrestling promoters – the XWA has evolved into a showcase for the very best of British wrestling talent, including an incredibly strong roster with UK stars like ‘The Wonderkid’ Jonny Storm, El Ligero, ‘The Shining Light’ Stevie Knight, Sam Slam, The Zebra Kid, ‘Rowdy’ Ricky Knight, Spud and many other names from the North West and beyond. The XWA offers an exciting and unpredictable night of entertainment that all wrestling fans – young or old – can enjoy. It’s the best British wrestling, in the best British wrestling venue, in front of the best British wrestling fans. XWA – the Legend Lives On!
Future-Shock Wrestling
Since 2004 Future-Shock Wrestling has prided itself on providing great quality shows with high entertainment value that focus on family friendly atmosphere whilst aiming to hone the skills of the next generation of UK wrestler. Through a mix of established Northern talent like “Northern Uproar” Dom Travis, Dirk Feelgood, Dangerous Damon Leigh, Simon Valour, Joey Hayes, Dave Rayne and more coupled with the cream of the Future-Shock School’s crop, a unique wrestling experience is provided. Future-Shock will be bringing its singular style of wrestling entertainment to its spiritual home of Stockport’s Masonic Guildhall whilst also expanding out into nearby Macclesfield for a number of shows throughout 2008.
