Aunt Thelma thought it was a happy new year when she woke up on Thursday (it was quite a party) with Hulk Hogan! Unfortunately, it was a full-figured tattoo of the Hulkster on her arm. Oh well, maybe next year.
But it was a happy new year for Sting as TNA has extended his contract. Terms were not disclosed (are they ever?), but my gremlins say he’ll stay at least a year.
Sting is a unique individual not only for his looks, but for his loyalty.
He joined WCW in 1991 and stayed until they folded their tent 10 years later, appearing on the last Monday “Nitro” program, where he beat Ric Flair and then announced his retirement.
He occasionally did some independent shows but officially returned in 2006 with TNA.
He stayed with WCW during those years when it battled WWE for ratings and talent with wrestlers flip-flopping like politicians between the two groups. Sting, however, never flipped or flopped, remaining loyal to WCW.
So we take our masks off to a man who stands for old-fashioned John Wayne values: you keep your word and your contract, pilgrim!
And speaking of Hogan, this Sunday at 9 p.m. on NBC, the Hulkster hosts the premiere of “American Gladiators.” There are contest categories such as “Pyramid, Gauntlet and Earthquake.” What, no “Hell in a Cell” or ladder matches?
Former WWE/WCW star Jacques Rougeau, who runs a wrestling school in Quebec, couldn’t resist getting into the ring again – this time to get married!
Over the holidays, he tied the ring rope, er, knot at a televised event in Montreal, and as soon as the wedding ceremony ended, he threw off the tux and put on the trunks. Yes, folks, he actually had a match and won to get his honeymoon off to a winning start!
