The following is from WWE.com:
WWE has come to terms on the release of SmackDown Superstar Chris Masters. We wish Chris the best in all his future endeavors.
Anyone that has followed this story should not be the least bit surprised. Whereas CM Punk is the poster child for a drug-free lifestyle, Chris Masters was obviously the poster child for a drug-full lifestyle. As a result, the Masterlock Challenge will not be seen again in the WWE.
More on this shortly…
Jason says
Since when is Chris Masters a main event superstar? And the Masterlock challenge was popular?
Joe says
I’m with Jason – when was Chris Masters ever a main event guy?!
In any event, I’m glad that this guy was fired – he was obviously abusing the system. Good job by WWE.
Jacob Spades says
FACT: Chris Masters competed in a main event on the November 28, 2005 edition of Monday Night RAW for the WWE Championship against Kurt Angle and John Cena.
FACT: The Masterlock Challenge was popular when Bobby Lashley broke it on the March 19, 2007 edition of Monday Night RAW because it marked the last time he used it on national television.
But I’m still with both of you. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Masters and his stale gimmick.
Jason says
Lots of people have been in TV main events or have had title matches. That doesn’t make them a main event star, that makes them a guy who was in a main event. Is Jim Ross a main event superstar? Eric Bischoff? Taka Michinoku? Jonathan Coachman? John Cena’s dad?
Do it consistently and then we can talk. Masters was a high-mid card guy at his peak and that was a short period a long time ago.
