Here’s the deal. I liked Smackdown better last week, but the show last night was still good. There were a few parts that kind of bored me but all in all it was a good show with solid wrestling and I do mean solid wrestling. And there is one match that I cannot wait to talk about. That would be a match that I never dreamed would be as good as it was. So let me get right into the show and I’ll start with some of the fair segments. Remember nothing was really bad.
I could not get into the Khali vs. Kane match. Well I couldn’t get into them back at Wrestlemania and nothing changed last night. If you asked me about the match I honestly would answer, I don’t remember much I was too busy not paying attention. Also the women’s match with Victoria vs. Michelle McCool was anything but smooth. I will give Michelle McCool credit because she tried and I think in time she might have it but you can see her moves don’t flow, she definitely needs more work. And I guess you could toss in the very cheesy Krystal and Theodore Long backstage segment as not being the best. You could say these were the lowest points of the show. But I’m talking about three short segments that didn’t hurt the show that much because everything else came off so well.
The opening with hot shot MVP the VIP, Matt Hardy and Chris Masters started things off very well. MVP all dressed up and coming off like he’s the greatest thing to hit wrestling appeals to me so much. I love his cocky attitude and when he plays off of Matt Hardy it just works so well. So we have the VIP lounge and Matt as the first guest. I liked Hardy and MVP’s interaction as well as Matt taking the Master-Lock challenge. I mean Matt came awfully close to breaking that lock but it was MVP’s kick to Hardy’s gut that kept him from winning the contest. What a great way to get heat from the crowd. And speaking of the crowd, the Uncasville, Connecticut crowd was really hot all night and really on fire while this segment was going on. As I said MVP and Matt Hardy got the show off to a very good start.
And now I get to tell you about my match of the night, the match that shocked the hell out of me. It was Brian and Brett Majors vs. Deuce and Domino. Listen I didn’t expect a bad match but I surely did not expect these four to put on such a great performance. Last night the Major Brothers really got my attention. Both of these guys seemed quite at home in the ring last night and I was just so pleased with their moves. And Deuce and Domino worked so well with this new tag team. I have to give props to all four for putting on a near flawless match. Well in my eyes it was flawless. This was one hell of a fantastic match, and I say let’s make this a definite feud and keep it going.
I enjoyed the skits with Vince and Coach again going over who might possibly be Vince’s illegitimate child. Oh yes Vince’s eyes popped out of his head when the thought of two BIG men maybe having that honor of being his kid, Big Daddy V and Khali. We all know what big men mean to Vince. The best part for me with all of this was Kane standing behind Vince and calling him dad, and laughing his creepy laugh. Finlay vs. Noble I had no problem with even though poor Jamie didn’t stand a chance. He was used as Finlay’s punching bag through out the match. But you know anytime Finlay is showcased as a total jerk with his shillelagh I love it. And Jamie Noble got a few good kicks into Finlay after Kane came in to interfere. Of course Hornswoggle showed up and pushed Noble into Kane which caused Kane to lose it and chokeslam Noble. This was a nice little match and quite a nice ending.
Another match that appealed to me was Chavo Guerrero vs. Shannon Moore. In my head I just figured Chavo would squash Moore in a matter of seconds. But that wasn’t the case at all. This was a match that had substance and let Shannon Moore show his stuff in the ring. I was just so thrilled with what I saw during this one. I’m telling you these are the guys that make a difference for the company not your “big” men. Well at least the big men that Vince pushes down our throats constantly. Dave Batista started out a little slow for me but managed to pick things up when he finally started talking about what Khali did to Ric Flair last week. At the beginning of the promo Batista was too quiet and calm, but it didn’t take him long to lose it after watching Khali on the screen use a basketball as Batista’s head and pop it. That was all it took for Dave to show some real emotion. But I’m still not ready for the Batista vs. Khali match at Summer Slam. And also before I forget as good as the Mark Henry segment with the druid and Taker video was last week the replay of most of it was nothing special. I wish something more original could have been done last night.
As you can see it was a night of some very solid matches, and now I’m getting ready for tonight’s Saturday Night Main Event. With Summer Slam just 8 days away and with one more Raw, Smackdown and ECW show left next week hopefully each show will just ooze with excitement. I am planning to be back on Tuesday with my Raw thoughts. And before I close thank you all for sending me your kind words about my latest family problem. It means more to me than you know and as I said things are not going well but I do plan on being back on Tuesday.
