Press Release –
XWA BATTLE OF BRITAIN WEEKEND
The XWA is proud to announce that the weekend of Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30 will mark the very first XWA Wrestle Weekender – when the XWA will present two live events in one weekend for the very first time.
The XWA Battle of Britain Weekend will feature the XWA Battle of Britain tournament to determine the number one contender to ‘The Wonderkid’ Jonny Storm and his British Heavyweight Title, and now this tournament will take place across two days, and two venues – including our brand new venue in Lancaster!
XWA BATTLE OF BRITAIN – PART 1
The Battle of Britain tournament will commence at The Morecambe Dome (British Wrestling’s Home) in Morecambe, Lancashire, on Saturday, September 29 when the First Round matches will take place.
So far seven names have been announced for the Battle of Britain tournament and they are – ‘Mr Deal or No Deal’ Stevie Knight, Joey Hayes, ‘The Psychotic Warrior’ Johnny Phere, ‘The UK Luchador’ El Ligero, ‘Rowdy’ Ricky Knight, ‘The Bombay Dream’ Ross Jordan and Sam Slam. One more name is still to be announced.
And we can also confirm that the first match has been drawn for the First Round of the Battle of Britain tournament, and this will pit the XWA’s new hero ‘The Secret Weapon’ Sam Slam against ‘Rowdy’ Ricky Knight in a rematch from their heated impromptu clash at XWA Vendetta which Sam won by disqualification. Further First Round matches are still to be drawn.
PLUS – Just because Battle of Britain is now a weekend don’t worry XWA fans, we haven’t neglected The Morecambe Raffle. Rest assured, the only raffle in the world to have its very own T-Shirt will return to the Dome on September 29!
Battle of Britain Part 1 comes from The Dome, Marine Road Central, Morecambe, Lancs, on Saturday, September 29. Doors 7pm and bell time 7.30pm.
XWA BATTLE OF BRITAIN – PART II
The second part of the XWA Battle of Britain Weekend takes place the following afternoon (Sunday, September 30), when the semi-finals and final of the tournament will be held at a brand, spanking new venue, as for the first time the XWA branches out just across the boundaries of Morecambe into Lancaster!
The venue will be the new Hexagon Theatre on the campus of Lancaster and Morecambe College in Lancaster, and what better way to launch this new venue than to have the Battle of Britain tournament reach its climax right there.
The 250-seater Hexagon Theatre boasts the best sound system in the Lancaster and Morecambe area and we think that although smaller than The Morecambe Dome, the venue will be more than able to capture that incredible Morecambe Dome atmosphere for this, the XWA’s first ever matinee show.
The final four in the Battle of Britain tournament will fight to the finish at the Hexagon, and they could be any four from among the following XWA stars:
Sam Slam
‘Rowdy’ Ricky Knight
‘The Bombay Dream’ Ross Jordan
Joey Hayes
‘The Psychotic Warrior’ Johnny Phere
‘The UK Luchador’ El Ligero
‘Mr Deal or No Deal’ Stevie Knight
And the final name still to be announced
One of these men will be crowned number one contender at the Hexagon Theatre and will get a shot at Jonny Storm at XWA Last Fight At The Prom on Saturday, November 24 at The Morecambe Dome. Who will it be? Be a part of the XWA Battle of Britain Weekend to find out!
Battle of Britain Part II comes from The Hexagon Theatre, Lancaster and Morecambe College, Morecambe Road, Lancaster on Sunday, September 30. Doors 2.30pm, bell time 3pm.
MORE BATTLE OF BRITAIN NEWS
The Best of The North West – New Division Debuts!
To celebrate the XWA’s debut at the Hexagon Theatre, we are launching our brand new division, The Best of the North West.
In The Best of the North West you will see exactly what the name suggests, the best wrestlers currently based in the North West of England doing battle to find out just who really is The Best of the North West. And the first match in this new division will take place on Sunday, September 30 at The Hexagon Theatre on the Battle of Britain Part II event.
We firmly believe in the quality of wrestling talent here in the North West of England and feel that this brand new division will be the ideal way to showcase some of the up-and-coming stars in the XWA’s home region.
Wrestlers across the North West are being lined up to compete in this new division over the coming months and we hope our fans enjoy seeing some of the region’s finest doing battle for bragging rights in the XWA. We will announce the competitors for the Best of the North West’s launch match in due course.
Burridge out for revenge
Also scheduled to be present at the Battle of Britain Weekend, although not necessarily as a participant in the tournament, is ‘Da Pukka 1’ Darren Burridge.
This will be the popular Essex boy’s first Morecambe appearance since Stevie Knight cracked him in the head with a kendo stick and cost XWA the British Inter-Federation Cup at War On The Shore back in April, and Burridge is expected to be gunning for revenge on ‘The Shining Light’.
So with ‘Da Pukka 1’ and the self-styled ‘Mr Deal or No Deal’ in the same building possibly on two consecutive days, all hell could well break loose!
Pitbulls return – one night only
And also making their return to the XWA for the Battle of Britain weekend for one of the shows only (Saturday at The Dome) will be Europe’s largest tag team, the combined whopping 70 stone mass of The UK Pitbulls.
The UKP were dominant during 2006 in the old FWA when they shed their image as one of the most hated teams in the UK and went on an undefeated streak as fan favourites. Morecambe fans have demanded the return of Bulk and Big D since then and the XWA is pleased to be giving the fans what they want!
As yet we don’t know exactly what Burridge or The Pitbulls will be doing at the Battle of Britain Weekend but we will keep you informed of developments.
Also –
Your referee for the weekend will be Richard Young and your host, as always, will be XWA owner Greg Lambert.
