This week’s Impact began with a recap of the major feuds in TNA. Team 3D is out to get The Steiner Brothers; Christian Cage is being attacked by Sting and Abyss; Kurt Angle is fighting with Samoa Joe again and they’ll be competing for every title in the company at the Hard Justice pay-per-view. Get all of that?
Another fun part of this week’s Impact – Sting wrestled against Robert Roode! It’s rare that you get to see Sting in action on free television these days, but he was definitely in action tonight. My favorite spot was the 10-smash “head in the turnbuckle” which saw Sting crash Roode’s head directly into the mat at #10. You just don’t see that type of stuff any more and sure, it wasn’t ground-breaking, but I smiled a little bit seeing that…
This match was followed up by some awkward backstage montage by Dustin Runnels where he had the old f-word bleeped out. He brought out the fact that no one could pull off the Goldust character and then said that there is a split personality inside of his head that is ready to come out because, “it’s time.” Who knows what that means, but I was always a semi-to-moderate fan of Runnels so I look forward to seeing him mix it up in TNA.
We also got to see one of my new favorite wrestlers, Chris Sabin, and Alex Shelley take on the LAX. If you’ve been reading my TNA Wishes and Major Impact columns, then you know that I absolutely hate the LAX gimmick (but those guys are EXTREMELY talented). However, this was a fun match to watch and one that I enjoyed. Sabin and Shelley are amazing talents and I’m glad that they are in an environment where they can show those in-ring talents when they are given the opportunity.
Watching this week’s tag team match with Sabin/Shelley and LAX inspires me to list the match as this week’s major impact moment. In essence, the major impact is the fact that such a great, quick tag team match even exists in a nationwide forum!
If I was naming “dud” moments of the week, I would say that everytime Brother Ray spoke during the Voodoo Kin Mafia/Team 3D/Steiner Brothers confrontation it was worth nothing. Except, of course, for when he screamed, “Stop calling me fat!” That was hilarious!
Interesting way that TNA is framing this particular feud. You have, arguably, the best tag teams from each of the three major US promotions all in TNA claiming that they were each better than the other. This could be a lot of fun to watch if it’s done correctly and (more importantly) a young TNA tag team can get a great rub by working with these guys as it appears LAX will be doing.
Great ending, too, with Abyss and the Christian Coalition fighting tooth and nail. Very fun to watch.
Quote of the Night:
“Tomko! Pay attention up here – don’t sit back there and play with your toy belt, alright?” – Christian Cage denigrating Tyson Tomko’s IWGP title
“You two fat asses don’t call us out, we call you out!” – Scott Steiner telling Brother Ray to shut it
“Why don’t you stand there and let your thyroid continue to spiral out of control and maybe you’ll gain a few more fat cells while I’m talking to you.” – Scott Steiner, once again, telling Brother Ray that he’s an idiot
