I wanted to do a split column about GAB and Raw. But I was so impressed with both shows that I would like to talk about the Great American Bash now and then tomorrow share my Raw thoughts with you. Who would have thought that WWE could give us such outstanding back to back shows? And I’m happy to say that I only missed two of my predictions. Of course I am not counting Hornswoggle’s win. That win came out of left field, and it wasn’t a big win at all, get it “big†win. Okay enough of my so called humor and on to The Great American Bash.
My top match of the night was Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga. Jeff Hardy won me over when he returned a few months ago and this man hasn’t missed a beat since that return. He worked his ass off and Umaga did an awesome job as well. Words can’t really describe just what this match meant to me. My second favorite of the night was the main event. I want to tell you that I feel like a total idiot for the way that I have put Bobby Lashley down. Granted I’m right about his pathetic mic work, but he showed me SO MUCH in this match. John Cena and Lashley DID have chemistry; it’s just too bad that the chemistry was hidden until Sunday night. Now more than ever I would love Vince to give Bobby a manager. Let the manager do the talking and let Lashley do the wrestling.
John Cena and Lashley ended the show with a GREAT main event. I also have to give it to Batista and Kane for their hard work in the World Title match. I would be lying if I said that Khali brought a lot to the match because he didn’t. The match was all Dave and Kane and it turned out a lot better than I thought thanks to these two guys. Matt Hardy vs. MVP was a good opener. And there were many times when I thought Matt was leaving as the new U.S. champion. Candice and Melina did a very good job and it just bothered me that the crowd was so dead for this one. The Bull Rope match started out with humor thanks to Dusty Rhodes and then it became intense thanks to Randy Orton. I liked the match and Orton again shined as Raw’s top heel. The Cruiserweight match was much longer than I thought it would be and every one involved did a very good job. I will admit even though I’m a big Hornswoggle fan, but I am disappointed that this title means so little to Vince (no pun intended) that he would give the little guy the title instead of one of the cruiserweights. I’m not losing sleep over this but I wish the outcome would have been different. CM Punk vs. John Morrison came off well, but unfortunately the crowd didn’t take to this one either, but I can’t blame them. This match was like an after thought. ECW is not high on the list and you could see that with the way the crowd reacted. The worst match and it wasn’t horrible but rather uneventful was the Singapore Cane match. I would have liked the cane to have been a part of the match either by Sandman or Carlito. It was like there was no payoff with this match.
And the only non wrestling segment that did not work for me was Booker T and Jerry Lawler. It started out with promise but it just bombed. This thing just went on and on. Finally, I didn’t have a problem with Candice the Women’s champ dousing herself in water with the Hardy’s drooling over her and Ron Simmons doing his signature DAMN. But it could have been shorter. All in all I was very pleased with this pay per view. It was definitely worth the money; well at least I think it was. GAB was the pay per view that ended some feuds, and last night’s Raw started some brand new ones. I cannot wait to discuss these new feuds tomorrow.
