Dr. Phillip Astin III, the doctor who allegedly overprescribed WWE wrestler Chris Benoit with massive amounts of anabolic steroids, has been linked to another superstar in the wrestling world. Reports suggest that the death of Michael Durham, better known as Johnny Grunge in the ring, are now linked to Dr. Astin’s questionable practices as a doctor.
Michael Durham died in February of 2006 from complications related to his diagnosed sleep apnea in his home in Peachtree City, Georgia. Reports are also coming in that Durham, a 4-time former ECW Tag Team Champion, was close friends with Chris Benoit and possibly even neighbors at one point.
At press time, there have not been any other details released on this ongoing investigation. For the record, Dr. Astin has not been formally charged in the Benoit case but has been indicted on seven counts of overprescribing excessive amounts of medication.
