It’s almost unfair to expect anyone on the TNA roster to follow-up the amazing effort put forth by Christian Cage, Kurt Angle, and Rhino last week. The 3-way title match for tonight put “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles back in a team with “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels as they went against Team 3D and LAX. For me, this match reeked of a WWE match. In other words, you knew that there was no chance of LAX winning (there’s no way that gimmick can main event a pay-per-view – no one would buy it). On the same token, you knew that given Styles’ allegiance as part of Christian’s Coalition, he couldn’t possibly be on a winning team in this match.
And – as you know already if you read my columns – I just find Team 3D to be really boring these days. They are the Jean Paul Levesques of TNA: they’re willing to do some innovative things in the ring and lose matches on television and pay-per-view, but they always come out on top in the end. For me, it’s boring to watch over and over and over again.
For those of you who didn’t get to watch the show, Team 3D won…obviously. I think better choices for this match would have been Team 3D, The Steiner Brothers, and Cage/Tomko. Yeah, I know that Cage was in that amazing match last week, but at least the possibility of him (or Tomko) in the main event is feasible.
And how about Christy Hemme getting some of Lance Hoyt backstage, huh? Good grief! How smoking hot is Christy Hemme? During that same backstage segment we saw Samoa Joe give his best attempt at a threatening promo. The only problem I had with this interview was the fact that the cameraman was apparently on drugs since the friggin shot was all over the place! Someone get that man some V8 or something…
I don’t think I’ve brought this up before, but how weird is Abyss’ opening music? Part-classical, part-crazy, part-destruction…an interesting mix.
At this point, I’m unsure how I feel about Rhino’s backstage interview with Mike Tenay regarding his addiction to alcohol. I don’t know if he’s got a real addiction or if this is part of a Russo storyline, but I know it’s a little bit trashy and probably more like a low-end RAW storyline than an Impact one.
Anyway, my major impact for tonight is the 3-way women’s match! Yeah, it wasn’t the best match, but I’ve always been a big fan of women’s wrestling. Unfortunately, women’s wrestling is a rarity on TNA programming…so when I see it, I have to praise it!
Here’s hoping for a TNA Women’s Championship in the near future. Hey everyone! I’ve now written as many TNA Major Impact columns as I wrote TNA Impact Wishes! This column is like a staple of the site now. Hooray!
Quote of the Night:
“You thought you were teaching me something? I’ve been under the covers of Christy Hemme the whole time. She’s the teacher, I’m the student.” – Lance Hoyt living every man’s dream
“Chris Harris is that guy who’s fixing to shatter that glass ceiling using your head as a battering ram!” – Jim Cornette telling Christian Cage to watch out for Chris Harris
