There are several major news items to report from Thursday’s “iMPACT!” broadcast on SpikeTV as TNA began the road to the July 15 “Victory Road” Pay-Per-View event:
JIM CORNETTE ANNOUNCES MAIN EVENT FOR VICTORY ROAD – FIRST-EVER “MATCH OF CHAMPIONS”
On Thursday’s broadcast, TNA management director Jim Cornette announced a special main event for “Victory Road” on Sunday, July 15 on Pay-Per-View. That night, the first-ever TNA “Match Of Champions” will take place as the main event for the three-hour spectacular. Here are the details, as explained by Cornette on Thursday’s “iMPACT!”…
– The TNA World Heavyweight and X Division Champion will team up against the TNA World Tag Team Champions.
– All of the TNA championships will be on the line in this match.
– When a wrestler scores a pinfall, not only does he win the bout but he wins the championship of the star he pins.
– In the case of the World Tag Team Champions, if one is pinned then the star that scored the victory wins both Tag Team Championships and the opportunity to pick his own partner to defend the gold with.
In addition, in the weeks leading up to the Pay-Per-View spectacular, Cornette has promised to shake things up in the TNA title scene, which was evident on Thursday as we have a new X Division Champion!
SAMOA JOE WINS THE X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP
Also on Thursday’s “iMPACT!”, “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe reclaimed the TNA X Division Championship in a three-way match against “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal and Chris Sabin. Thus far, with Joe winning the X Title on Thursday night, it stands now as Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe taking on Team 3D – but with the World Title on the line next week on the huge “iMPACT!” and Team 3D scheduled to defend before the Pay-Per-View, who knows which teams will be facing off come Victory Road!
– “Cowboy” James Storm continues to make plenty of enemies in TNA Wrestling, as he enraged “The War Machine” Rhino on Thursday’s broadcast. Following the tag team match that saw Rhino and Eric Young take on Robert Roode and Storm, the Cowboy poured his beer in Rhino’s face. In turn, Rhino went ballistic and tore apart the ringside and backstage areas as referees and even Jim Cornette tried to calm him down.
– In addition, “The Instant Classic” Christian Cage had some choice words for “Wildcat” Chris Harris, who cost Cage his chance at reclaiming the World Title in the King Of The Mountain match at Slammiversary. According to Cage, if Harris wants to be a star in TNA, he’s going to have to deal with Cage first. However, Christian was cut short when Abyss attacked his nemesis and the two TNA stars brawled all over the arena! Apparently, Abyss is far from done exacting his revenge on Cage and his crew.
– Speaking of Chris Harris, he was victorious in his match on Thursday night over Raven when Kaz interfered in the bout to help Harris. Based on what we’ve seen, the relationship between Kaz and Serotonin has come to an end.
