The show opens with Jim Cornette in the ring. He calls out all of TNA Champions, and says that at Victory Road, there will be a “Match of Champions”. He says that the match will be the Tag Team Champions facing off against the TNA World Champion and the X-Division Champion, with all the belts on the line. Yet, in order to qualify for the match, each champion must defend their titles over the next three weeks. Team 3D and Jay Lethal seem happy about the match, yet Kurt Angle gets angry with Cornette that there is not a celebration in honor of the his title win. He goes on to thank himself numerous times and says that he hates the fans. Cornette says that he is sorry that Kurt feels that way and goes on to tell him he will defend the TNA Heavyweight Title next week in a triple threat match. And later tonight, it will be Jay Lethal defending his title against Chris Sabin and Samoa Joe.
The first match of the night is Robert Roode and James Storm versus Rhino and Eric Young. Showtime begins the match and seems to have some trouble with all the double teaming, but is able to tag in the War Machine. Rhino goes for the Gore, but Jackie Moore distracts him enough to get hit with a Superkick by James Storm. After the match Storm celebrates in the ring with a beer and proceeds to dump it on Rhino. Rhino goes crazy and demolishes the announce area.
The emotional video of Jeff Jarrett talking about the five year anniversary of TNA and the influence his late wife, Jill, had on the company. If you haven’t had a chance to see this video yet, please click here to watch this emotional piece. Not too many things bring me to tears, but this was definitely one of them.
Leticia is backstage with Samoa Joe asking what he thinks about his match tonight for the X-Division Title. Joe says he is tired of doing the same interviews. He goes on to speak to Kurt Angle, “1st, I take back my X-Division Title. Then next week, if you win – you lose. I’ll be your partner at Victory Road, but I won’t be your teammate.”
Wildcat Chris Harris against Raven is next. The end of the match saw Harris going for a bulldog, but Havoc hit him with a kendo stick. Raven took advantage and went for the Raven Effect, but Kaz came to ringside, took out Serotonin and flew off the ropes and hit Raven with a flying clothesline. Harris then hits the Catatonic on Raven and gets the victory as Serotonin chase after Kaz.
After the match, Christian Cage appeared on the screen. He tells Harris, “You proved you wanted to be a star when you speared me off the ladder and cost me the TNA Title. At sometime, we’re gonna put on a show!” As Cage started to end the conversation, someone appeared before Cage and startled him. He asked what the person was doing there and the video went to black. As Don and Mike tried to ponder on who Cage was talking about, they had their answer as Abyss threw Cage down the ramp and into the ring. Abyss grabbed a barb wire baseball bat, but was attacked by AJ Styles and Tomko before he could do any damage.
A video was then aired with James Mitchell stating “I searched the dark seedy underbelly of humanity to find my prize. After countless sleepless nights, he appeared – a force unlike the world has ever seen. He is coming…my son.”
The main event is next as Jay Lethal defends his newly won X-Division title against Chris Sabin and Samoa Joe. The winner of the match not only wins the title, but goes on to the Match of Champions at Victory Road. The finish of the match saw Lethal going for a top rope elbow drop, but Sabin pushed him down to the floor. Joe saw Sabin on the ropes and gave him a huge kick to the head. He followed it up with a Muscle Buster and won the X-Division Title for a 3rd time. As Joe grabbed the title, he stared into the camera and kept repeating “ANGLE”. It seems like Samoa Joe’s statements from earlier in the night have come into fruition. Jim Cornette then comes out to congratulate Samoa Joe and announce that Kurt Angle will defend his TNA Title against Christian Cage and Rhino next week.
