Oh no you aren’t going to get me to vent like a crazy woman again. Not that venting after watching last night’s Raw wouldn’t be the thing to do. But no I’m going to take the high road, well my version of the high road and just give you my thoughts about the show. I’m not going to lose it, n I’m just going to stay calm and share my thoughts with you. I will remain tranquil today because maybe next week I’ll be back into my bitch mode again.
It would be so easy for me to say that I hated the show last night because I did. See I thought that we were going to get a lighter side of the death angle. Mick Foley got things started when he said that had he known that Vince McMahon was going to spontaneously combust he might have done things differently. That line I was hoping would set the tone for a totally different way that the angle would go. I figured ah finally this storyline will be handled with humor and all the dram would come to an end. I also thought that we were on the right path when Cryme Tyme did their segment. Granted the segment stunk because it wasn’t funny. Of course we can credit the creative team for that, but at least the idea was supposed to be humorous and I was fine with that. Then we had Jillian trying to sing Amazing Grace. She definitely got a big smile out of me. She does that forced voice so well. And even Carlito’s lovely thoughts about Mr. McMahon were done perfectly. Good old Carlito kissing Mr. McMahon’s ass. I loved it. Mr. Kennedy….Kennedy’s promo about his idol Vince McMahon was too long, but I still enjoyed it because the man knows how to rile up the live crowd. Yeah this show was like a breath of fresh air for me compared to Smackdown, but this was all short lived.
I’m still calm so just stay with me. All of the above really didn’t mean a thing, because the garbage took over. You have this so called investigator Daniel Beck questioning Coach, John Cena and others. This was just too cheesy for me. And JR and Jerry the King Lawler did a terrible job at the mic last night. I’m not blaming either guy but it was the worst announcing by both men that I have ever heard on Raw. These two guys were so blah and tried so hard to make us all believe that Vince died, but they failed miserably. My heart went out to both of them. They could have just as well stayed home and JBL could have taken over. He seems to be really and I mean REALY excited about playing this all out. And then I have to give it to Stephanie McMahon for ending the show on such a downer. I got mixed signals with the humor at the beginning and then the return of Stephanie. After a very long absence from TV, she’s back and her performance in the ring talking about her late father and thanking everyone for their condolences was more than I needed to see. She went on to cry well I was crying too because I couldn’t believe I watched this show. Anyway, Stephanie like this has never been good; she was at her best during the McMahon/Helmsley Era back in 2000-2001. When she’s solo oh boy it’s not a pretty sight.
But let’s not forget a few other things. There was the draft last Monday night and Sunday and instead of making a big deal about the new members of Raw they were just brought out for their matches and really that was about it. And then you had this 10 second tribute to Sherri Martel. Nothing more than her picture, not even a video package dedicated to her. Plus there is a pay per view on Sunday, it’s called Vengeance. And they take their top match with John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Booker T vs. Lashley for the WWE title and do nothing to put any importance on it, but in all fairness they haven’t put any importance on any match that’s on the card Sunday night. Yeah last night’s show was beyond bad. But the Richmond, Va., crowd did a nice job out there. I have to give it to them for staying with a show like they did.
At least we did see some good matches. The women’s match with Mickie and Candice vs. Melina and Jillian I loved. Every woman in that match really stepped up to keep the fans interested in it. London/Kendrick vs. WGTT was another good match. I will say I wish the crowd would have been more into this one but I liked it very much and it’s great to see London and Kendrick on Raw. Jeff Hardy vs. Daivari got big thumbs up from me. I not only liked the match, but I thought Cade and Murdoch the new Tag Team champs sitting with Lawler and JR did their job well scouting Hardy and agitating him after the match. The main event with Orton/Cena/Booker Lashley was okay. It was nice to see a light hearted William Regal for a change flirt with Maria. Hell I even liked Sandman coming out when Carlito was talking about McMahon. At least I had these matches to keep me sane for the night. I will say I did not care a bit about Mick Foley vs. Umaga, and I think I’m more against Foley in Sunday’s match after last night’s show than last week’s show. There is no reason for Foley to be included.
Well I’m still keeping it together here even after I just saw that the ratings were up and in the low four’s. Wow I bet the McMahon’s are smiling from ear to ear. Just remember the more ratings go up the longer Vince will stay dead and dominate the shows. And speaking of dominating WWE programming, I wish that I could say that I was looking forward to next week’s three hour tribute to the late and great Mr. McMahon, but I’m not. We just had that three hour show last week and I think having another one so soon is a bad idea. Especially when it centers on Vince again. Okay I will be back over the weekend with my Vengeance picks; you know the pay per view that’s scheduled for this coming Sunday.
