Total Nonstop Action cele brates its fifth-year anni versary with today’s “Slammiversary” pay-per-view event, which takes place at 7 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn.
One of the TNA originals who has been a part of the company’s growth and success is wrestler and valet Tracy Brookshaw (aka Traci Brooks).
Brooks, who was part of a TNA house show in Shef field on Friday, is excited about the company’s growth and what’s in store for the future.
“We went from (weekly) pay-per-view to FOX (FSN),” Brooks said. “We then went on the Internet for a while before we went to Spike TV. We went from the 11 o’clock (Eastern time) slot to 9 o’clock.
“We haven’t taken a step backwards. We’re bringing in smart people. We’re on a great time slot and the ratings are great.”
Brooks, known on TV as “Ms. Brooks,” has managed Robert Roode for eight months and she will be in Roode’s corner when he faces Eric Young tonight.
Brooks likes her role as a heel manager and likes working with Roode.
“You got to be the exact opposite of who you are outside than in the ring,” Brooks said. “It’s always fun to play that character. Robert has an awe and demands attention. He’s Canadian and he’s my homeboy.”
During a recent TNA “Impact” TV taping, Brooks wrestled fellow Canadian Gail Kim. Brooks likes how the company is utilizing its female talent, which in addition to Brooks and Kim includes Christy Hemme (valet of Basham and Damaja), Leticia Kline (backstage interviewer), Jackie Moore (wrestler and James Storm’s valet) and ring girl So Cal Val.
“I think our booking committee really believes in giving women empowering roles,” Brooks said. “I think they’re using our talents, strengths and appearances.”
Brooks hopes for a full-time women’s division in the future.
“I want to be the first-ever TNA women’s champion,” she said. “I’d love to see Gail and I feud for it because we have a great history (Kim and Brooks trained together seven years ago), and get Jackie in the mix. She’s a great girl to learn from. She’s amazing and tough.”
