Due to the short time slot that TNA Impact occupies on Spike TV, getting involved in one of their storylines really is an investment. For example, a few weeks ago we had a great promo by The Steiner Brothers against Team 3D and we haven’t really seen those teams since. In some respects, that is one of the negatives of only getting some 42 minutes of television time each week.
In order to rectify the lack of exposure for many of their stars, TNA hosts many 3-man tag team matches and – like we saw tonight – an 8-man tag team match that put the Steiner Brothers and Basham & Damaja going against the Voodoo Kin Mafia and Team 3D. This might as well have been the WWE throwback match as Christy Hemme was with the Basham brothers and Earl Hebner was the referee! By the way, Hebner is a little bit slow in the ring, so I guess he’s starting to show his age.
In fact, even though the 8-man match was really nothing worth going nuts over, it’s going to be my major impact of the night. Really, the entire tag team division at TNA could be considered the major impact of the night. This is a promotion that has some great tag teams including the legendary Steiner Brothers, LAX, the Voodoo Kin Mafia, and Team 3D. Granted, it’s obvious that I’m not the biggest fan of Team 3D, but they still provide bodies to put in the ring and beat up.
Some other comments from the show…
TNA is really pushing this TNA Mobile stuff. I guess that’s part of the new age “hotlines” in wrestling today…
How much does Hector Guerrero look like Eddie Guerrero? Weird.
I admire TNA’s decision to hold a King of the Mountain Redemption match since it has the potential to shake things up for the main event of the pay-per-view. However, I just question whether or not it’s worth holding such a match if none of the previous losers are actually put into the main event. It’s sorta weird.
How hilarious are the Eye Spy segments with Kevin Nash and the X-Division guys? You have “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal talking and acting like the Macho Man and referring to “The Dragon” and “The Snake” and how the Snake ruined his wedding. Hilarious!
But going back to the original point of this article, with such a small amount of weekly television time, it was certainly a bit of a shock to see Abyss come out to the ring for the King of the Mountain qualifier against Christian Cage. We haven’t seen Abyss on an Impact for weeks.
Even though Abyss lost the match, you have to love the fact that he beat the snot out of everyone who came out of the ring to stop him after the match. And a bag of broken glass? Nice! I would have paid to see Christian dumped on that pile of broken glass. But hey, I’ll take an Abyss punch on “The Red Rooster” Terry Taylor any day of the week!
Quote of the Night:
“I’ve been running wrestling promotions since…you were still wetting the bed, you know that, don’t ya?” – Jim Cornette explaining how long he’s been in the wrestling business to Leticia
“And you, you little blithering moron…as far as I’m concerned, you’re an idiot!” – Jim Cornette laying it down to the Phenomenal AJ Styles
“I want you to go out there and kill each other because it’s good for ratings.” – Jim Cornette explaining why he’s putting Angle, Samoa Joe, and Styles’ spots in the King of the Mountain match on the line
