The big news this week is the impending WWE Draft, which will be held tonight on Raw.
This year, wrestlers, Divas and everyone in between is eligible to be selected by one of the three WWE brands – Raw, Smackdown or ECW.
In drafts past, the world champions have always been fodder for changing sides. That’s how John Cena wound up on Raw and Batista arrived on Smackdown.
But I don’t see that happening this year. Cena’s too big a star now to head back to Smackdown and Edge is not a big enough draw as a champion to hold the gold on the WWE’s flagship.
Personally, I would like to see Edge head to ECW and have to wrestle there while someone like C.M. Punk heads to the big leagues to make life difficult for a whole new group of people.
Tonight’s Raw will also feature several interpromotional matches, including the opening contest that will pit Cena against Edge. According to wwe.com, the matches will affect the draft, but in what way is still an unknown.
Raw will also feature Mr. McMahon Appreciation Night in honor of Vince McMahon. If you haven’t been watching lately, you’ve missed McMahon slowly losing a grip on reality on each show since losing the ECW title.
To help celebrate the evening, the WWE is brining celebrities and former WWE personalities including Steve-O from Jackass, Jesse Ventura, Gene Okerlund, Bobby Heenan and Mick Foley, plus many more.
Tonight’s Raw begins at 7 p.m., not 8; so remember to get to your TVs an hour earlier.
