When you think of the faces of wrestling — legends who walked the walk and talked the talk — guys like Ric Flair, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin come to mind.
There’s another guy itching to add his name to the list. Ken Anderson, the guy we know and love as Mister … Kennedy … Kennedy.
“Ever since I got into the wrestling business, when I stepped into the ring for the first time in an old J.C. Penney shopping centre, one light hanging above the ring … the guy who was training me told me that I’d never be successful,” Kennedy said. “I remember thinking, ‘You’re wrong.’ “One of my biggest influences was Stone Cold Steve Austin and I have always thought I could get to that level. I want my name to be cemented up there with all the big stars.”
After winning the Money in the Bank ladder match at Wrestlemania, Kennedy lost the title shot that goes with it to Edge. A triceps injury forced him to the sidelines.
“I had taken a (Batista) clothesline,” Kennedy said. “I felt such a sharp pain that I knew something was wrong. I had an MRI and Stephanie McMahon called and told me that I might be out for six-seven months. I went to Dr. James Andrews. He told me there wasn’t a tear. I’d be out for four-five weeks.
“I’d been wrestling with a severely sprained ankle, a sprained thumb and I’d broken my nose — all in one match against Matt Hardy. It’s a rough schedule.
“We don’t get vacation. We wrestle 52 weeks a year. So (the time off) has been perfect. I’ve spent some quality time with my girlfriend. We’ve been riding our mountain bikes 15 miles a day and decorating our new house.” Kennedy will see Andrews Monday and hopes to get the green light to return soon.ONE NIGHT STAND: Bobby Lashley regained his ECW title, beating Vince McMahon at WWE’s One Night Stand pay-per-view last Sunday. John Cena pinned The Great Khali; Rob Van Dam beat Randy Orton, but it was Orton who later laid out Van Dam; CM Punk, Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman beat The New Breed; The Hardy Boyz beat The World’s Greatest Tag Team.
