So the streak ends. Vince McMahon HAD to show up on Smackdown last night. The show wasn’t bad, but it could have been so much better if this new McMahon character never appeared on TV. I think we have all seen how Vince has brought Raw and ECW down and I guess he is trying really hard to include Smackdown on that list. Thankfully he didn’t quite succeed because we still saw some pretty hot matches. Like Raw and ECW, Smackdown’s future feuds were put on hold because of Monday’s draft, but as I said most of the matches that we got were really strong matches.
Hey no surprise here, I did not like the Cutting Edge. No matter how hard Edge tried to make this a decent segment and Edge did do a good job, but Mr. Obnoxious killed it with his so called whacko, Southern character. I never saw a more annoying Vince than I saw last night. In fact I have it on right now because my husband is watching it, and it’s even worse the second time around. The Vince McMahon that used to bring a lot of entertainment to the shows is no longer. My God I wish he would just realize that he’s NOT WWE when it comes to TV and get the hell off. Wow what mood killer, and I can’t say things improved drastically after this segment.
Mark Henry vs. Boogeyman was the first match of the night, it was fast and it was a squash by Henry not only over Boogeyman but little Boogeyman as well. This was just another way to show what a monster Henry is. Want to know a sure way to kill the monster? Put Henry in a match against John Cena and watch Cena FU Henry for the win.
I want so badly to enjoy Vickie Guerrero but having her read the cue cards word for word about the two big matches that we would get didn’t exactly endear her to me. And then to make matters worse Vince shows up again because God for bid he doesn’t get on air time and goes crazy for Vickie and then gives it to Theodore Long and Krystal. Just like he did with Torrie and Ric Flair, he yells at Krystal for being with Long with such a big age difference. Do we see a theme here? I would say so, something about age differences that Vince just doesn’t like. I have to say so far the show isn’t doing much for me, but the Cruiserweight match with Jimmy Wang Yang/London and Kendrick vs. Chavo Guerrero/Daivari and Jamie Noble, (whom I forgot was even around) turned things around in such a good way. This was a fantastic match and even though I’m not always thrilled about guys just being thrown into matches without having any storyline this time I didn’t care because Smackdown needed something good and this match definitely was good. Wouldn’t it be nice if Vince gave the Cruiserweights as much time on TV as he gives himself?
The next match was my match of the night, and I’m talking about Edge vs. Chris Benoit. As soon as Vickie said this was on I knew we would get a five star match. This is what Smackdown is known for, solid matches. I would love to see a Benoit/Edge feud, but if you go by the rumors, Chris will be drafted to Raw Monday night. But that’s a rumor, and if he remains on Smackdown I just wish Vince would do the right thing and make a Benoit/Edge feud after Vengeance. We had another segment with McMahon and this time the supporting cast included Matt Hardy and Ashley, and that’s about all I can say about that. Matt’s match against Deuce and Domino was a good match but again the gimmick is just holding me back from really rallying behind these guys. There’s no doubt in my mind that D&D are hard workers but they need something else to get them over. Of course I wasn’t thrilled with Cade and Murdoch for the longest time, but because of good chemistry with the Hardy’s, and good writing I see Cade and Murdoch in a whole new light now.
The main event with MVP vs. Batista was excellent. Here are two guys that have really stepped up in the last few months. Batista has shown a lot since his program with Taker, and ever since MVP worked with Chris Benoit he is consistently strong in the ring. These two worked a nice hard match and the Orlando, Florida crowd was really into what was going on. I loved the ending with Edge doing a run in, and Batista turning just in time to Spear Edge. What a nice surprise, and great way to build things up for their match at Vengeance.
So sure I did a lot of bitching about Vince but all in all this was a good Smackdown, and now Monday is D-Day, Draft Day. Many of you have been asking me whom I think is going to be drafted and I really don’t know. I am thinking that Nitro and Kenny will go to ECW. I thought maybe CM Punk would be moved to Raw or Smackdown, but the more I think about that one the more I feel Punk will remain on ECW. I think Umaga maybe going to Smackdown and right now that’s about it. Of course it’s Vince McMahon Appreciation Night, which you all know I will be eagerly watching. I really hope that Vince doesn’t wreck the complete three hours of Raw, and that the draft is exciting, and that it turns out to be worth watching.
