On tonight’s Impact, we were treated to a great match between Jerry Lynn and Robert Roode. It appears like Roode has all of the characteristics of a big-time star – should be fun to watch him progress through his career.
We were also introduced to “The Guru” Sonjay Dutt. Weird. I guess we’ll have to wait to see how this turns out. Also, TNA did a good job promoting the Frank Wycheck angle at their Slammiversary press conference. Nice work!
And hey! A women’s match! Alright! Gail Kim and Ms. Brooks put the boots to each other in a pretty good women’s match. Gail Kim has always had a great degree of athleticism – it’s nice to see her putting those abilities to use for a change. Probably a little bit too much crap after the match was over with Robert Roode, though.
Something needs to be said for the Christian Cage dress down of Tomko, too. If not because of the excellent verbal skills that Christian showed, then for the awkward Sesame Street picture in the background (with Big Bird)! Cage is so good on the microphone that it makes you wonder how any wrestling organization could just let him no re-sign with the company…
However, the major impact of the night was the James Storm and Chris Harris match. How great was it to watch the dueling trash can lid attacks? Ha ha ha! I loved it. The crowd seemed to love it, too, with their chant of “This is awesome!”
Both men drew blood during the match and the fans were completely into the bout. However, this is another example of how taping Impact in front of a big-time crowd at a big-time arena would have only helped to enhance the atmosphere surrounding this match. I hope that Storm and Harris get a chance to beat the hell out of each other again in a bigger venue with more rabid TNA fans chanting for them!
What stood out for me tonight was the incredible effort put forth by all of the performers. Really impressive.
Quote of the Night:
“Hold it, hold it, hold it! Don’t make a move! Do not move! I said there was going to be no men beating up women in TNA and I mean it. Don’t put your hands on that woman!” – Jim Cornette holding the company line on man vs. woman violence in TNA
“This is awesome! This is awesome!” – Fans in TNA’s Impact Zone reacting to the James Storm vs. Chris Harris match
