The importance of Triple H, Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker’s worth to World Wrestling Entertainment is clearly evident by the weak “One Night Stand” pay-per-view event, which takes place at 7 tonight.
Due to “The Game,” HBK and “The Dead Man” being out due to injuries, the RAW and Smackdown brands have suffered because of it.
The fact that there’s a good possibility that the main event for tonight’s show is WWE Chariman Vince McMahon defending the ECW championship against Bobby Lashley in a street fight shows how long a summer the WWE could be in for.
For those who are willing to stomach tonight’s show, the event will be shown locally at Fox and Hound English Pub & Grille on Atlanta Highway.
Here’s a preview:
# Kane vs. Mark Henry: The “world’s strongest man” is back and battles Kane in a lumberjack match. Every time the company gives Henry a push, he suffers a severe injury that sets him back. But more than likely, they will try to push Henry again, so I expect Kane to fall.
# Randy Orton vs. Rob Van Dam: Several wrestling journalists are speculating that RVD will not sign a new contract and this stretcher match will be RVD’s last WWE match. What’s ironic is that because of the injuries to Triple H, Michaels and the Undertaker, and Edge moving to Smackdown, Orton — who has been in the WWE doghouse for a while — is going to get a decent summer push because he’s a solid heel and the company has no choice but to push him. Look for the “Legend Killer” or maybe more appropriate the “Concussion Killer” to win.
# Six-man tables match: CM Punk and ECW originals Tommy Dreamer and Sandman take on New Breed members Elijah Burke, Matt Striker and Marcus Cor Von. This is another match to continue the Punk-Burke rivalry. It appears that Punk and Burke are two young guys the WWE has high hopes for in the future.
# The Hardys vs. World’s Greatest Tag Team: Matt and Jeff Hardy defend the world tag team championships against Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas in a ladder match. Hopefully this match will finally propel an anticipated feud between the Hardys and Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch.
# Melina vs. Candice Michelle: Melina, the WWE women’s champion, and Michelle, who has improved tremendously in the ring, will battle in a pudding match. That’s right, I didn’t make a mistake. I wonder if Bill Cosby and the company that provides Jell-O would approve this match. It’s a shame that two women who have improved in the ring have to be subjected to such nonsense.
# Edge vs. Batista: Edge defends the world heavyweight title against Batista in a steel cage. Until the Undertaker returns, the “Rated-R Superstar” should hold the title for a long time.
# John Cena vs. The Great Khali: For the third time in a month, Cena faces the 7-foot-3, 420-pound giant. With Michaels and Triple H out, the company is trying to make Cena, the WWE champion, look stronger by “slaying a giant.” The problem is, Cena made Khali submit two weeks ago at “Judgment Day.” For the past couple of weeks, the boos have gotten louder toward Cena. If the company can’t help Cena get the majority of fans on his side this summer with DX out, I don’t know what else they can do.
# Vince McMahon vs. Bobby Lashley: A 61-year-old millionaire wrestling a muscle-bound guy who has the voice of a child is the main event for tonight’s show? DX can’t come back soon enough.
