I wanted to get my Backlash predictions out now, so I don’t keep changing my mind about the outcome with two of the matches. I won’t be ordering the show, BUT, that’s doesn’t mean anything. Usually when so many matches on the card seems weak, show turns out be quite good. So those of you that will be there live I think you’ll have a great time. And for those of you that will be ordering it I’m hoping that you email me with a big thumbs up about the show. For the most part I feel pretty secure about my picks, but as I said there are two matches that I’m going back and forth about so let me get to those two right now.
Women’s Champion Melina vs. Mickie James For The Women’s Title
My pick is Melina, however I definitely could see Mickie winning, but I guess I just feel safer going with Melina. My reasoning is that there was hardly any build up to this match. It was done so quickly and I would think that Melina will remain champion, and maybe for the next pay per view Mickie will take it. There is no doubt in my mind that Mickie will bring A LOT to this match and hopefully Melina and Mickie can keep the fans interested with some pretty extreme moves.
Winner: Melina
World Tag Team Champions The Hardys vs. Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch For The Tag Team Titles
In my opinion Matt and Jeff are keeping the belts, but it would not surprise me to see Cade/Murdoch win and then have Matt and Jeff work solo again. I’m hoping for a Hardy’s victory because I’m just not ready for Cade and Murdoch as champions, they still haven’t won me over. I have no idea how this will come off but with the Hardy’s in there I would think this will turn out be a fairly decent match.
Winners: The Hardy’s
ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Mr. McMahon, Shane McMahon & Umaga (3-on-1 Handicap Match)
I really have nothing to nice to say about this match. Once Vince announced this baby, I knew that I wouldn’t be ordering Backlash. I’m going with Lashley for the win but many rumors have it that Vince will be the new ECW champion. Oh wow that’s just what I need to have happen so he can ruin watching ECW for me for the next few weeks.
Winner: Bobby Lashley
United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. MVP For The U.S. Title
Last night on Smackdown, we got one very good match between these two guys. Now why Smackdown booked this match when Benoit and MVP are going at it on Sunday is beyond me but let me tell you their match last night was the highlight of the show. It was OUTSTANDING. And yes I am now a true MVP fan. Again he looked just excellent out there against Benoit and I have a feeling that tomorrow night’s match will be just fantastic. I’m giving the win to MVP. No matter who walks out champion it’s pretty much a given that you are going to get a 5 star match from Benoit and MVP.
Winner: MVP
WWE Champion John Cena vs. Edge vs. Randy Orton vs. Shawn Michaels (Fatal Four Way Match)
This is a case where I wonder if this match can come close to what Cena and Michaels gave us on Raw this past Monday night. You do have 4 of the best in here, yes I’m including Orton in that sentence even though he has a lot of growing up to do, I still think in the ring he delivers. And I believe that this will be a lengthy match and a very good match with a lot of action. I still would love to see Shawn walk out champion, but as I said on Monday that’s not going to happen since he beat Cena Monday night. Randy doesn’t stand a chance with his behavior in Germany and Edge hasn’t really been in the ring much due to his jaw injury. That’s why John Cena will win. I can’t wait to see how the fans react to him through out the match and then once he wins. I want to see if his performance against Michaels put an end to the majority of boos, or if the fans will continue to give Cena heat.
Winner: John Cena
World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker vs. Batista (Last Man Standing Match)
Taker and Batista stole the show at Wrestlemania; can they do it again tomorrow night with their Last Man Standing Match? It is certainly possible. Taker has never looked better, plus I was very happy with Batista last night on Smackdown. I was thrilled that he had that aggressiveness in him when Smackdown opened and he was beating up Kennedy and Finlay. And I thought the main event with Batista/Taker vs. Finlay and Kennedy was a very good match and more importantly for me was that Batista definitely had fire in him on the mic when he warned Taker that no one keeps him down for the ten count. This was the soft spoken, bland Batista that WWE has been giving us; this is the Batista that I like. I believe that this will be a hard worked match by both men and hopefully it will be a great match to end the show. I believe that this will be Backlash’s main event.
Winner: Taker
So there are a few good matches here that should make the fans pretty damn happy. I can’t wait to hear what you guys thought about it. And you know me; I will be checking results constantly. Keep your predictions coming; right now the majority of my readers are going with Mickie James. She seems to be the favorite. I will be back Tuesday with my Raw thoughts.
