While I was in the middle about the past Monday’s Raw that is definitely not the case as far as Friday’s Smackdown goes. Let me just say if it wasn’t for Taker and The Hardy’s and Benoit vs. Chavo, Helms and MVP match, the show would have been a complete dud. This was the most boring show that WWE has put on in a while, so boring that I thought very hard many times to just turn it off, but I didn’t. I sat through it and I still can’t believe how bad it was. Also as hot as the Milan crowd was for Raw that’s how cold they were Friday. But I have something really positive to talk about and I also have a big rumor that came out last week. So let’s just forget about Smackdown and let me give you a few of my thoughts about this past week’s ECW show and then the latest rumor going around and it’s a big one.
I have been so down on the way ECW has been going for a while. It seemed like after Vince McMahon fired Paul Heyman and got him away from ECW things went downhill fast, very fast. And Vince has taken it upon himself to show up a little too often on ECW. And since we see so much of McMahon on Raw, having him come out two nights in a row and mostly just repeating what he has done the night before does not make for the most entertaining hour on TV. There have been many weeks when ECW has just been horrible, and other weeks when it’s passable. But this past Tuesday I saw an ECW that made me so glad that I didn’t decide to watch something else. AND, it seems that I’m not the only one that felt this way about the show. Feedback from most of you and feedback on many sites couldn’t have been more positive.
And the reason for all of this was that the show centered on CM Punk. And none of it was over kill; the creative staff certainly came through by giving all of us a great storyline with the newest member of the New Breed basically screwing with the other members. The week before ECW ended with Punk joining the New Breed and turning his back on the Originals. So it seemed like a sure thing that Punk was a full fledged heel and would make things miserable for The Originals. Ah but that was not the case. We saw an hour of Punk screwing with his new buddies, especially Elijah Burke. I loved the ending when Punk tossed in a chair to help Burke win against RVD, but the chair went right by Burke and RVD ended up with it and used it to score a victory over Elijah. Was that an accident? I don’t know. I thought this was all written so well and it just seems so different for a change. Instead of the usual, face turns heel, heel becomes vicious and goes after his friends, we now have a guy that is just playing mind game after mind game with guys that believe he is now one of them. As I said this was all done so well and it just made me very happy to see Punk finally have something major going on in ECW. And if creative can continue to do what they did this week ECW might start making a nice little comeback.
I can’t wait to tell you about this very big rumor that’s out there. Okay now this one I would love to see come true. Supposedly, in the very NEAR future Shawn Michaels will be moved to Smackdown. They want to put him on that show because they feel he can be the top baby face and feud with Taker, Batista, Kennedy and others. Now I don’t know about you but I really believe HBK on Smackdown would bring in the ratings big time. Shawn would be in new feuds and with his solid wrestling he would be a perfect fit for Smackdown. It’s just my feeling that once Hunter comes back DX will continue for a very short time. And if Shawn doesn’t move to Smackdown the only other scenario that I would love to see happen is having Shawn Michaels turn on Triple H and have a nice feud start up. I would love to see Shawn as the heel and keep Hunter a face for a while. But back to Shawn and Smackdown, remember nothing is definite here but this is one rumor you can bet that I will keep my eye on.
I want to throw in a few extra things here. First WWE.com is reporting that Super Crazy was injured in Germany, and it’s believed he tore his MCL. I hate to see anyone injured and I’m a big fan of Crazy’s and I hope he gets better very soon. Also, Randy Orton reportedly trashed a hotel room in Germany the other day was sent home by WWE. Now there’s another rumor going around that he’s out of next week’s main event match with Cena, HBK and Edge. Now again remember that’s not definite about being out of Backlash. I want to see if his name is brought up tomorrow night on Raw from London, England. With that I will leave you and be back Tuesday with what I hope will be a very favorable Raw column.
