Okay, most of you know that I really hate to complain on a regular basis, but even though Raw was a better show than last week’s fiasco, I still found so much that I didn’t like. In fact I have to say that after Raw did such a great job for so many weeks building up Wrestlemania, I’m very disappointed that the show is starting to come off like garbage. So bare with me and let me just give you my thoughts in no particular order about Monday’s Raw and why I will not be ordering Backlash, oh yes it all has to do with the Monday’s show.
Raw gave me three reasons why I will not be ordering Backlash. My first reason is Vince McMahon announcing a Lashley vs. Umaga vs. Shane and Vince for the pay per view. Please I wouldn’t want to see that one for free. And speaking of this angle, I am so bothered by all of this. I wasn’t crazy to have Shane back and I was less thrilled about seeing Vince come out at the end. I thought maybe just maybe we would go without the Bald Wonder, but unfortunately the guy can’t stay away. I was totally uninterested in the main event with Shane and Lashley and as I said the announcement for their match at Backlash left me cold. So now instead of DX vs. The McMahon’s and the Spirit Squad we have The McMahon’s and Umaga vs. Bobby Lashley, oh yes I will pass on this one.
Now here’s reason number 2.Cade/Murdoch vs. Hardy’s match for the Tag Team Title? I don’t think so. Talk about two mismatched teams in the ring, AND Cade and Murdoch do absolutely nothing for me and haven’t for a long time. Then to make things even worse they are Matt and Jeff’s pay per view opponents, but it’s The Worlds Greatest Tag Team, Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin that have a Raw match against The Hardy’s and I ask myself why? Why put these four guys on Raw, when you could have Benjamin and Haas face Matt and Jeff at Backlash and give the fans one hell of a match that night? Oh please this really makes me angry. And not only do you have the WGTT, but what about Cryme Tyme? Instead of having them do “shtick” week after week, why not turn them heels which I believe they could do so well. Why not turn them and give them the match against the Hardy’s. After all it was months ago when Shad and JTG won that number one contender match to go for the tag team gold. What a joke? See we are all supposed to forget that and just move on and watch a very average at best match for a pay per view.
And finally my third reason why I won’t be ordering the show? I don’t want to pay for another John Cena win. Now it’s early and I may be way off about Cena beating Edge, Orton and Shawn Michaels at Backlash. I mean he very well could lose and God I hope he does. But I don’t want to put out $40.00 with a chance he’s going to beat all three guys that night. I look at it this way should Cena lose I’ll be thrilled, but I won’t regret holding off ordering the show. Now as far as all this played out the other night, oh you can bet I have plenty to say about what we got. For one, while HBK vs. Orton’s match started out slowly, I thought after the break things picked up very nicely and I found myself really getting into the match. However how PATHETIC was the ending. My God if they wanted to do a fatal four-way with Edge, Orton, Cena and Michaels why couldn’t creative be creative and come up with a better way to end the match?
Shawn was on top of Orton, Orton’s shoulders were down and the whole thing played out so poorly. That ending I believe really killed the mood for what was to come when the Cutting Edge started. Things really went downhill when Cena came out and started talking about Edge, Orton, and Shawn Michael’s packages. I have to hand it to the Bridgeport, Ct. crowd, because when Cena came out they cheered but as soon as his mic work started the boos also started and Cena got some pretty crappy crowd reaction. I mean this is another case of creative doing a horrible job by having the champion come out and make meaningless conversation. It also ticked me off when Cena got in HBK’s face continuing the crap about who has and who hasn’t got one. I guess in my mind Shawn being the veteran and icon that he is, didn’t need the in your face crap by Cena. Why not have Cena come out and get tough and really cut one meaningful promo on all three men. You know creative is really doing one miserable job with their top talent and their top feuds. This segment was sub par and so disappointing to me. And then you have Coach make this Triple Threat match with HBK left out and then Foley comes out with that little boy and the young boy over rides Coach’s match and comes up with the Fatal 4-way match. Now let me say as far as having Michael Pena make that match I couldn’t have been happier for him. It gave me chills seeing him out there and I’m sure Monday was a night that he will never forget. I’m not blaming Michael at all. My thoughts were maybe things could have been written so much better like maybe when we all first saw Michael on TV Coach or even Vince in a heel way could have said okay kid you get to make any match you want tonight. I don’t know just something like that instead of him going over Coach and making Coach look rather worthless out there. But props to Michael for making a better match than Jonathan Coachman.
So you have my three reasons why I will be saving money on April 29th. And hey it’s early I have a feeling I might be adding to this. Now quickly let me say it was great to see Mickie James right back in there feuding with Melina. The tag team match with Mickie and Candice vs. Victoria and Melina was fine, I guess having Mickie and Victoria out there just worked for me. I also liked Carlito pushing Ric Flair away after his was pinned for the loss. Is it Flair that will turn or will Carlito get his wish and going back to playing a heel? Whatever happens at least this is one storyline that I am into.
So again this wasn’t one of my most positive columns, but after getting so much feedback since Monday’s show I see that I am in the majority with my thinking. I would like to just send out very personal Congratulations to one of my friends Jeffery on his marriage to Keri. I wish them nothing but happiness. Oh and years of watching wrestling too. Gee I hope Keri is a wrestling fan. Seriously, Congratulations! I will be back with my Smackdown thoughts and of course I read the spoilers and I’m looking forward to watching the show. By the way in case you didn’t know Booker T will be out for a couple of months due to a knee injury. So last week when Taker destroyed Booker it was done just to get him off TV for a while. Also one more thing I promise. I am very excited about CM Punk’s heel turn. I watched the whole thing last night on ECW and I think Punk will finally become one of THE top guys on that show and I really believe Punk will play a heel so well. I’m ready for CM the heel.
