Show Report:
The show begins with Mr Kennedy making his entrance with his new shiny briefcase. We get shown a video of him doing the JFK on Hornswoggle off the ladder. He informs us to refer to him from now on as Mr. Money in the Bank. He tells us we’ve heard of the Hogan and Austin era but the Kennedy era has just begun… begun. His opponent tonight is newly crowned tag champ Jeff Hardy.
Mr Kennedy vs Jeff Hardy
Hardy gets the early advantage but gets taken through the ropes by Kennedy who follows him to the outside. Hardy goes back in and dropkicks Kennedy through the ropes before hitting a cross body on him over the top as the show goes to break. Hardy still has the advantage in the ring when the show comes back getting a 2 count on Kennedy. He hits the front suplex before going up top where he is blocked by Kennedy. He backdrops Hardy from the top and goes to work on him. He gets a 2 from an elbow drop before stretching Hardy with the ring post. He gets another 2 from a short arm clothesline. Kennedy locks in an abdominal stretch as ticket information for WWE One Night Stand is shown leaving me scratching my head. Kennedy gets 2 from a running knee. A couple of back breakers get another 2. He puts on another abdominal stretch using the top rope for leverage but Jeff hip tosses Kennedy out of it followed by a jaw breaker, short arm clothesline and cartwheel kick. He gets a 2 count off his corner dropkick. He hits the Whisper in the Wind before going up top for a missed Swanton. Kennedy DDTs Jeff for the victory.
Winner ?” Mr Kennedy by pinfall. Good match.
Kennedy takes his briefcase up the ramp but is chased by Hornswoggle. The distraction allows Finlay to attack him from behind with the stick (I’ve given up trying to learn how to spell it).
After a recap of the attendance record at Mania and the post show media coverage we join Kristal giving an envelope to Teddy Long for opening later. Mr Kennedy interrupts telling Teddy he wants Hornswoggle in a match. T Lo agrees to Kennedy vs Hornswoggle… and Finlay next week. Teddy opens the card in the envelope, sniffs it and says “this is amazing”
Elsewhere Timbaland is backstage with Ashley. He starts to talk about his video before Jillian interrupts. She tells “Timby” she can sing and gives us a little sample. Timbaland mocks it and leaves with Ashley.
They show the recap video of WrestleMania. I’ve just noticed that Justin Roberts is doing the announcing tonight.
Chris Benoit vs The Miz
Benoit gets the advantage with a back suplex and a few big chops. He hits the Back Body Drop followed by a snap suplex for 1. Miz fights back for a little while before Benoit takes it back with a side back breaker for 2. Miz gets lifted over the top onto the apron and takes some big chops. He blocks a suplex back in and snaps Benoit’s neck on the top rope. This gets a 1 count before Miz continues told the advantage with a European headlock. Benoit fights back with more chops. Miz two 2 counts off a big clothesline in the corner. JBL and I am amazed at how much offence Miz is getting. Miz hits some shoulder thrusts in the corner but Benoit fights back with more chops. Miz’s chest hurts I would imagine. More chops, a high elbow and a clothesline for 2. Benoit hits the 3 German Suplexes before signalling for the headbutt. He goes for it but MVP pulls Miz out of the firing range. Miz gets the 3 count and MVP makes a quick exit over the crowd barrier.
Winner ?” MVP by pinfall. Good mainly when Benoit was doing the offence.
The bit from the Money in the Bank match where Matt Hardy is going to hit the Twist of Fate on Sharmell is shown. Cole calls it the toughest decision Booker had to make in his career. JBL calls it a dumb decision. In his locker room Booker is talking about the spot with Sharmell who felt violated. He’s going to take it out on Matt Hardy’s “hide” tonight.
Matt Hardy vs King Booker
A knee to the face allows Booker to get the advantage which is stopped by some right hands. Hardy hits the clothesline/bulldog combo for a 1 count. Booker kicks Hardy in the face and chokes him on the ropes. Matt’s lip is bleeding. Booker distracts the ref as Sharmell slaps Hardy. Booker hits a Spinebuster and applies a rear chinlock. He continues to attack Matt instead of taking pinfall opportunities. Hardy gets the advantage back with clotheslines and a neckbreaker. He hits the middle rope legdrop for 2. A kick to the jaw turns things back in King Booker’s favour and gets him a 2 count. A long advantage for Booker gets stopped by the Side Effect for 2. Hardy goes for the Twist of Fate but gets pushed into the ropes by Booker. He sets up for the Scissors Kick but Hardy rolls him up for a very close 2. Booker hits a heel kick on Hardy for 2 of his own. Hardy drops Booker on the top rope and goes for the Twist of Fate again which is blocked by Booker. Hardy manages to roll up Booker for a Small Package victory.
Winner ?” Matt Hardy by pinfall. Slow in places but a pretty good match.
Post match Sharmell gets in the ring with a mic informing King Booker that he just lost. She makes fun of the King and says he did nothing about Matt Hardy violating her. She calls him a disappointment to her and himself and leaves. The crowd chant “you suck” at King Booker.
Kane vs Dave Taylor.. or not.
Taylor and Regal jump Kane before the match starts but Kane fights back easily. He bounces both men off the crowd barrier. Regal hits him with a chair but he no sells, punching Regal into the front row. Taylor gets sent over the announce table.
Sharmell is backstage crying but Booker comes over and says he’ll do better. He hugs her and asks for a kiss but gets a slap. I guess Sharmell is a face now.
Paul London and Brian Kendrick vs Chavo Guerrero and Gregory Helms.
Before the match starts Deuce and Domino drive into the entrance way with Cherry. Helms and London start with Helms getting the early advantage. He quickly tags to Chavo and back in again. They hit a double suplex on London for the 1 count from Helms. Helms hits some legdrops and rakes London’s face on the top rope before tagging out. Chavo hits a back suplex for 2. He gets another 2 off a dropkick. London hits a headscissors before tagging to Kendrick who hits another headscissors on Chavo. Helms runs in but gets a headscissors from London before Kendrick hits another headscissors sending Chavo out of the ring. London and Kendrick hit respective dives through the ropes on Helms and Chavo as the show goes to break. Back in the ring Helms has a waistlock on Kendrick. He gets a 2 count from a sidewalk backbreaker before tagging to Chavo. Kendrick fights back but gets taken down with a drop toe hold. Helms tags back in and goes up top hitting a double axe handle on Kendrick who is suspended on Chavo’s knees. This gets a 2 broken up by a Paul London dropkick. Helms drops Kendrick on the top rope and both he and Chavo take advantage in the corner with the referee distracted. Chavo stops Kendrick from tagging out before tagging himself to Helms who gets 2 from an elbow. He knocks London off the apron allowing he and Chavo to attempt a double team on Kendrick. He reverses it with a double dropkick allowing him to make the hot tag to London. He cleans house with kicks on Helms and Chavo before hitting a Inverted Atomic Drop/headscissors combo on Chavo. He then hits the double foot stomp from the top onto Helms’ back for a 2 broken up by Chavo. Helms rolls up London for 2. He gets another 2 from a neckbreaker broken up by Kendrick. Guerrero goes up top for the frogsplash but is blocked by Kendrick. Helms goes up as well followed by London. Chavo gets sent to the outside and London and Kendrick hit a Tower of Doom style Sliced Bread on Helms for the win.
Winners ?” Brian Kendrick and Paul London (London over Helms) by pinfall. Very good match.
Booker is backstage and pissed off. Somebody is gonna’ pay. The Hall of Fame recap plays.
Undertaker makes a druid supported entrance. The druids, the gong and finally the man himself get huge pops. He’s about to speak when Batista comes out. He congratulates Undertaker and wants a rematch. Straight to the point and then he leaves. King Booker attacks Taker from behind. It’s not long before Booker is on the receiving end of a lot of punches before being clotheslined out of the ring. Undertaker headbutts the King a few times before placing him on the announce table and signalling for the Tombstone. He delivers the Tombstone without the table breaking. Undertaker stands above him on the table holding the title up. He leaves as the doctors and Queen Sharmell attend to Booker.
