Are you people happier with wrestling lately? Well, are you? You should be, because for the first time in a long time the WWE has been putting out a pretty good product. Not every moment of each show mind you, but a huge improvement has to be noted. Of course it is in conjunction with Wrestlemania 23, but who cares? Better is better.
I know that almost everyone has mentioned the fact that the first match hyped for the WWE’s show of shows is the Hair vs. Hair match, and that’s not pleasing a lot of fans. I agree 100%. Just take a trip to their website and go to the Wrestlemania page. What is the first thing you see? Vince, Donald, Lashley, Umaga and Stone Cold. The two big championship matches are under that. If the major reason fans watch wrestling is to actually see good athletes clash, then do we really give a damn about whose head might get shaved?
The fact is, many do. I fear that most will not care if there is quality wrestling between Bobby Lashley and Umaga, well, if that’s possible, because they will be waiting for the end result – just who will end up bald at the conclusion of the match? Most seem to want it to be Donald, and it should be obvious why. What is up with that hair, anyway? Vince’s hair might not be all his, but it LOOKS as if it is.
But do not forget one thing, friends. Wrestlemania falls on April 1st this year. That’s right, April Fools Day. I smell a swerve coming. I cannot believe that two of the biggest egocentrics alive would compromise their physical appearance, whether we think that look is good or not.
Let’s leave the big heads now, and look at just how strong Wrestlemania is, at least on paper. I must mention first the war between the World Heavyweight Champion Batista and The Undertaker. If the rumor mill is to be believed – yeah, right – it seems as if the idea to have Batista ruin ‘Taker’s win record has taken a turn. If indeed The Dead Man makes it 15-0 he will also have another title belt around his waist. Speaking for me, that would be fantastic!
The WWE Champion John Cena will go against Shawn Michaels, and this should be a great match. If Cena is really one of Vince’s “Golden Boys” than he will keep the title. Either way, it will be good watching.
What can I say about the Money in the Bank Ladder Match? Well, one thing for sure, and that is I hope no one gets hurt. Lots of talent in here, and you can bet each will be out to show up the others. In case you don’t know who the cast of characters are; Randy Orton, Kennedy, Finley, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Booker T, CM Punk, and Edge.
The ECW Originals (Sandman, RVD, Sabu and Tommy Dreamer) have to go up against The New Breed (Elijah Burke, Matt Striker, Marcus Cor Von, still better known as Monty Brown, and Kevin Thorne). This one could be really good or really bad. Yes, I know, I sound like a weatherman, but that’s how I feel about it.
Don’t care much about Melina against Ashley, mainly because I think that Melina needs to face someone who can really wrestle. Ashley is learning, yes, but she’s not there yet.
Kane gets to join the show, but he has to toe-to-toe, if that’s possible, with Khali. I can’t bring myself to call him The Great Khali; I just can’t lie that much! Glad to see Kane gets to play, but I still think this match has to be a stinker. With only one wrestler in the ring, how can it be anything else? (Sorry Kane, I do love ‘ya.)
The United States Champion Chris Benoit defends his title against MVP. I think this one might be good. MVP has some moves, and Benoit, well, we all know just what great things Chris can do.
So for me, the card looks good. I guess we will find out soon enough. In less than two weeks the game faces go on, and WM 23 hits the television screens. I am really looking forward to it, more than I have for one of their shows in a very long time, and I don’t expect to be disappointed.
I must put in a quick word about TNA. In contrast, what used to by my favorite promotion has started to disintegrate a little bit. What most don’t like about the WWE, TNA has started to adopt. Why do they now have so many little stupid skits? And what’s up with all the talking? Used to be that they just gave us quality wrestling, and that was such a nice change.
They still have great athletes and many of the matches are super. I did not order the last PPV, although two of the matches I would have loved to see. But on last weeks’ iMPACT! one of the contests was between Jay Lethal, Kaz (Frankie Kazarian), and Jerry Lynn. I loved this match. I get tired of all of the comments about Lynn’s age, but at the same time it is super that he still looks as good as he does and is such a strong worker.
