While I was watching Smackdown I kind of felt gypped by two matches, which I will explain in a little bit. Smackdown came off so well, in fact I thought the show was extremely good. I don’t believe there was one match that I didn’t like. Raw and Smackdown seem to be on the right tract as far as building things up for this years Wrestlemania. I will say I’m still bothered with Chris Benoit not being a part of the show, this has been going on way too long as far as I’m concerned, but other than that Smackdown gets a thumbs up from me.
Why did I say that I felt gypped about the show? I’ll tell you why. Because I spent $40.00 dollars on a miserable Smackdown pay per view last Sunday, and this past Friday night, two matches that really stunk at No Way Out, came off so much better, so much more entertaining than what I saw on Sunday. I’m talking about Booker T vs. Kane for the Money In The Bank qualifying match and Boogeyman/Little Boogeyman vs. Finlay and Little Bastard. By the way Little Bastard has a new name. His name now is Hornswoggle. Yeah that’s his new name. Anyway I liked both of these matches so much. Booker vs. Kane was a solid hard worked match. And Kane and Booker really clicked Friday night. The Boogeyman/Finlay match came off the way I thought it would Sunday night, humorous and enjoyable. In fact I thought the Boogeyman showed more in this match than he’s ever showed before. That’s why I felt gypped; why the hell did we get crap on Sunday and then get such an improvement on Friday night? I guess its water under the bridge, but I did like both of these matches a lot.
I also liked having Matt Hardy with London and Kendrick against Deuce/Domino and Joey Mercury. I’m telling you this Mercury/Hardy rivalry wins me over each week. I love watching these two in the ring. Of course I’m a big fan of London and Kendrick they are another duo I can watch week after week and enjoy. I hate to rush into things, but I think the 1950’s gimmick with Deuce, Domino and Cherry is just a dud. It’s not working for me at all. It’s not to say that Deuce and Domino can’t wrestle, because that’s not what I’m complaining about. It’s just that the 50’s thing makes no sense to me. Also have any of you noticed that when Cherry claps and kind of jumps up and down it’s like watching a female Eugene? Believe me I noticed that from day one. I like Cherry but I think she needs to find a new way to cheer her guys on. But I did like this match and I am so happy that the Mercury/Hardy feud is continuing. You have to give it to Scotty Too Hotty and Chavo Guerrero for putting on a hell of a match. I would especially like to give props to Scotty since he isn’t in the ring consistently but he always manages to look good in any match he’s in. I thought this came off so well and while so many on the net are upset that Chavo used the ropes to beat Scotty, I say so what. Chavo is a heel and he’ll do whatever it takes to win. I feel the match was good enough where the ending didn’t bother me at all.
And finally the main event with Rey Mysterio making a special appearance was nice I liked it. But I would have put this leading to the second hour of Smackdown, and Batista’s opener as the ending with maybe Taker coming out. I think it was nice to bring Mysterio out in front of his hometown crowd and Vince McMahon and Umaga coming out really didn’t bug me. It worked out fine since Umaga took out the fan favorite and now WWE is using the attack on Rey to say that Rey was injured so badly they now have no idea when he’ll return to the ring. Just remember Rey is scheduled to return in the summer. But WWE wants us to believe that he was going to return in time for Wrestlemania, but Umaga took that away. And Umaga again looked like Vince picked the right wrestler to beat Trump’s man. So a good ending but again as much as I liked Batista’s opening the show I would have put him on at the end, and Rey, Umaga and Vince on at the top of the second hour.
I’m so happy that Smackdown did bounce back from that miserable pay per view on Sunday. Now I’m already for the Edge/Orton vs. Cena/ Michaels rematch tomorrow night on Raw for the tag team titles. This could be on excellent match. Donald Trump will be on and not only will he bring out the wrestler he chose to represent him, but I’m wondering if Steve Austin will also show up. Raw could be one hot show. Before I go I have a request from a reader. I also wanted to mention Impact. I am still watching the Saturday night replays, but the shows are not appealing to me like there were a few weeks ago. I cannot get into the Abyss and Sting angle at all. I have to say I’m tired of the Kevin Nash stuff, I’m not laughing at all. And Scott Steiner and Kurt Angle I can’t say is exactly a feud that I want to check out, so I’m watching certain segments and channel surfing when other segments are on. I will be back either Tuesday or Wednesday with my Raw thoughts. Okay here is the request. I am trying to track down the Marty Jannetty vs. Kurt Angle match that took place on Smackdown right before Wrestlemania 21. I would appreciate it if anyone could email me and let me know where I can find it. You can email me at bigdav149@yahoo.com
