I want to tell you the latest about my ankle and then something that is happening to my family. My mother is dying and it is just a matter of days until we lose her. As many of you know she suffered numerous strokes starting 3 ½ years ago and has gone downhill each time one hit. She fought a hard battle but it’s all coming to an end. She no longer can eat and the doctors told us there is no hope for her, and because of that they don’t feel a feeding tube is the thing to do. My mother was always so proud of me for writing columns even though she couldn’t believe that her “girlie girl” daughter loved wrestling. She would get a kick out my enthusiasm when I talked about the shows. And at work she would tell her friends that her daughter would rather stay home and watch wrestling then come over and visit. She found it all very funny. But I wanted to let you know that I am going to take some time off. I will be back, but right now, as you can imagine my heart isn’t in writing. But I can promise you I won’t be away too long. Also I found out from the MRI that I took yesterday, I tore a tendon in my ankle, so I will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon on Thursday. I want to thank all of you for your get well wishes and for all the Happy Birthday wishes that I got, you guys are the best. But enough of bringing you down, I want to take time off on a very very positive note, and that’s by talking about one of THE greatest Raws that I’ve seen in along time. This was the type of Raw that I started watching back in 1998. I’m still just so hyped by such an outstanding show.
You know there’s no sense in my going through every segment of Raw because every segment was that damn good. Even Umaga dominating Balls Mahoney worked for me since it set up what Vince has planned for the original ECW stars tonight. I simply loved the show. It had an upbeat tone to it from start to finish. What I want to focus on would have to be Taker picking Batista for Wrestlemania, and Shawn Michaels beating Randy Orton and Edge to get the spot against John Cena at Wrestlemania. I don’t know what the hell happened to Vince McMahon but he did everything right when it came to setting up both main events for the biggest pay per view of the year. The opening with Lashley, Cena and Batista standing in the ring waiting for Taker’s decision was done perfectly. I loved Taker giving the old throat slash symbol, you know his way of saying Batista you’re mine. And after he picked Batista I thought another cool move was watching Cena and Lashley step back in unison. This just all played out so well.
And once Shawn came out and then Orton and Edge I saw that triple threat match happening and I welcomed it. This was a main event that I could not wait to see.
Edge and Randy Orton did a nice job backstage with Edge trying to get his ex buddy to join him in taking Shawn out making sure that HBK won’t be in the Wrestlemania main event. And that main event? I LOVED IT! Sure maybe most of us expected Shawn to win, but it didn’t matter because the match was excellent and the Sioux City, Iowa crowd was just off the charts during this match. The chants for HBK were nice and loud and the atmosphere was just amazing. As I said I figured Shawn would win, but that didn’t ruin anything. And the ending with John Cena coming out and standing face to face with HBK was cool as was Batista coming out and then Taker making his way out to the ramp. Taker and Batista might have some heat between them but watching them stand side by side looking at Cena and Michaels in the ring was absolutely electrifying.
And I have to give it to Ric Flair for being another Raw star last night. His match again Jeff Hardy was really good. And then when Flair went off on Carlito I felt kind of bad because if you go by the rumors that are out there, everything Flair was saying to Carlito is just about true. Carlito is supposedly in the doghouse for not working hard and complaining about being a face and stuck in a love angle with Torrie. Carlito wants out of all of that and feels he should be a heel. So Flair lecturing him was quite a shoot. As I said earlier this was Raw from years ago, just so full of life and excitement. Wrestlemania is looking better and better and I would now say Edge vs. Orton will happen, and Carlito vs. a heel Flair will happen at the pay per view.
As I said I will be back, just when I don’t know but it won’t be a long absence, you know I can’t go long without talking about wrestling, I would burst. I’ll leave you with an interview you should check out. It’s a Roddy Piper interview on WWE.com, and it’s very uplifting.
