I liked last nights Smackdown very much. While the shows have been pretty solid for the last few months many times I find myself just a little bored during the two hours, but I didnt get that feeling at all last night. Smackdown came through in a big way, especially the very last segment. I would say the road to Wrestlemania is getting more fun as time goes on.
The opening match with Chris Benoit vs. Finlay was just excellent. When these two men go against each other you have probably two of the best old school wrestlers in there. Granted Benoit might not be a pro at mic work, but I really wish they would get him up in the title picture again. Listen with some of the crap that Vince pushes, at least Benoit can deliver in the ring consistently and hes not that disgusting when it comes to doing promos. This was my match of the night. I also liked watching Little Bastard being pulled back and forth from under the ring. You know me my humor is weird and this appealed to me. I guess we now have the Boogeyman vs. Finlay. Well we sure know Finlay can wrestle and we sure know Boogeyman really doesnt do much wrestling so this feud really should be something to see.
Okay I have a theory, last week Krystal showed her goods to Theodore Long, and Long seemed quite happy about that. And last night Vickie Guerrero made a comment about the deplorable working conditions. I have a feeling that Vickie will either try or she will become the new GM of Smackdown. I could be wrong but thats where I think all of this is going. The next match I enjoyed very much. It was London and Kendrick with Ashley vs. Deuce and Domino with Cherry. Now I really want to give the 1950s gimmick a try but Im not so sure about it. Im not sure this gimmick can make it. But as far as these two wrestling I like them, and I thought they worked very well with London and Kendrick. And in my opinion London and Kendrick are probably one of the best tag teams in the business.
I thought the King Booker key to the city segment was funny. As much as Im ready for Booker to dump the King gimmick, this segment had me laughing, especially watching Bookers face when he was listening to the speakers introduction. Theres nothing better than watching a humble Booker. And what I also liked was Kane coming out and stopping Booker from insulting the Houston fans. Is it me or has Kane made a wonderful comeback since he moved over to Smackdown? I know that I am finding myself much more into Smackdowns Kane then Raws Kane. The next match was with Mr. Kennedy..Kennedy vs. Vito. What I liked about this match was that Kennedy was still pissed from his loss to Batista at The Royal Rumble, and because of that Kennedy took it all out on Vito. I do feel bad that Vito has given 110% dressing drag and then was in a one sided match, but Im cool with all of this because I liked the way the Kennedy character played out last night.
The bikini contest was the usual eye candy contest, but I thought Jillians so called singing was funny; I really would like to see her move to Raw and get involved in the womens division. You all know how I feel about the Miz, but I thought he did a very good job against Matt Hardy. I happened to like this match and I had no problem whatsoever with Miz winning since it had to do with Joey Mercury slamming Hardy in the head with his face guard. Im so happy that they are keeping this Mercury and Hardy feud going. And finally the segment that really put Smackdown over, the main event. Not only did you have Batista coming out and demanding Taker make a decision about what champion he will face at Wrestlemania, but then John Cena came out also waiting for Takers answer. The crowd went nuts for this guy, in the old days I would have been ill with all the young children just ecstatic to see Cena, but last night I couldnt get over the little ones doing the you cant see me gesture and just beaming from ear to ear because their favorite wrestler came out. I have really changed because I found all of that very sweet and nice.
So you have both champions in the ring and then the Royal Rumble winner Undertaker came out and just when you thought that was it, the DX music hit and out came Shawn Michaels. The Houston crowd really was treated to a star studded show last night, and they responded strongly to it. I thought Shawn and Takers interaction was very good, Cena came off well and Batista did his cool, calm relaxed mic work but showed that hes not afraid of Taker and would welcome the challenge. This was a hell of a segment and before it ended you had Vince McMahon coming out and making a very hot match for No Way Out. Batista and Taker vs. HBK and Cena. What a great way to insure strong buy rates. I was just thrilled with all of this. And I read today that Smackdown scored a 3.2 in ratings making it the highest CW show of the week. That tells me that when you bring the top guys to both shows the fans are going to make sure to catch the shows. I say end the brand extension and keep your top talent on twice a week.
Monday is my birthday and for all of you that wonder how old I am I will be 53. But remember 50s are now the 40s. I have to believe that but you guys dont have too. And what a birthday gift WWE will be giving me. WWE.com posted that Taker will be live on Raw to announce the champion that he plans to face at Wrestlemania. I cant wait to find out. I wanted to also mention that on Monday I will be going for a MRI for on my ankle; my doctor feels I might have some broken bones. I want to thank all of you that have sent me get well wishes; they have meant the world to me. And because I have to elevate it a lot, I havent been able to keep up with my email, so just bare with me and I promise I will answer them as soon as I can. Now dont forget tomorrow the Bears become the Super Bowl champions, and on Monday Taker announces who he will face, what a way to celebrate a birthday. I will be back on Tuesday with my thoughts on Raw. Finally thank you all for emailing me the answer to the trivia question that I posted on Wednesday. What do the following have in common, Rikishi, Yokozuna, Torrie Wilson, Doink the Clown, Vito, Umaga, Earthquake and Roadkill. The answer is that they all have a signature move involving the butt. For example, stinkfaces and seated sentons. Again thank you for coming through for my reader that asked the question and for so many more of my readers and for me as well that really wanted to know what the answer was.
