So heres the thing. Sunday I sprained my ankle after falling on my way downstairs, bending it under and then falling over two stairs onto a hard floor. Its a severe sprain and lets just say it is more painful than watching a Chris Masters or Miz match, yeah it hurts that much. I am unable to sit long at the computer because its just not a comfortable position for me right now. BUT I really wanted to talk about Mondays Raw. Plus I had a few things to say about Royal Rumble. Instead of doing a column about the entire Raw show, I would rather start with a few thoughts on the rumble, and then go right to my feelings on the Cena/HBK/Taker angle, because this an angle that appeals to me very much.
My friend did tape the rumble for me and not only did she rave about the show especially the Royal Rumble itself but the feedback that I have received has been totally in favor of the show, with just a few exceptions, and then when I read feedback from the internet and even as I was keeping up with results this show with the exception of the Test/Lashley match got rave reviews. I cannot wait to get my tape and see what I missed. I did miss two of my picks which were Test and Shawn Michaels. I really thought Test was going to win but Im thrilled he didnt. The rumble really got things going with Takers first Royal Rumble win and I would expect the road to Wrestlemania to get more thrilling as the weeks go on, and I believe things got started on the right note with Mondays Raw.
I am so damn hyped about this whole HBK/Cena/Taker Wrestlemania storyline.
First after watching Raw, Im ruling out Edge and Randy Orton as being a part of a fatal 4-way match. I think these two guys are going to go against each other instead. I thought the opening with Michaels, Cena and Edge was excellent, probably because I really saw strong chemistry between Cena and HBK. And then maybe its because I want to see a Cena vs. Shawn Michaels match so badly at Wrestlemania. As I said on Sunday we have seen Edge and Cena a lot, Orton I dont believe is quite ready for the spot, but Michaels seems to fit the title picture perfectly. I have a feeling thats just whats going to happen. I loved the groundwork that laid on Monday. The tension between the WWE champion and the Heartbreak Kid got off to a great start.
It began with Michaels making the comment that John Cena is no Triple H. What a great statement to make. The reason that I liked it was because Shawn didnt come off as an overly friendly face that looks at Cena as a buddy. In fact I see a little bit of a heel in Shawn when hes dealing with Cena. Michaels is hungry for that title and that remark about Hunter was just another way to dig at Cena. And then later on you had Ric Flair talking to Cena who happened to be very happy to have Shawn as his tag team partner, but Ric quickly took the smile off Cenas face by saying telling Cena to watch out for Michaels making a statement using a super kick. Cenas facial expressions changed drastically after that remark. Just those two statements alone got things off to a hell of a start. And the main event with Cena and Michaels tagging against Edge and Orton for the tag team belts was an awesome match. The crowd was totally into this, and Edge, Orton, Michaels and Cena performed like this match meant the world. I loved it and unlike so many of you I didnt see Edge and Orton losing the belts, that loss was a big surprise to me. Not only did we get this great match, but we see Shawn Michaels all set to super kick Cena, but Cena was able to prevent it and question how Shawn could do that to him. Let me tell you this played out so beautifully. John Cena and Shawn Michaels in just one show proved that they HAVE IT. And then to top all of this off, we got the Undertaker on the ramp staring at Cena and HBK. Was that Takers way of saying he wants Cena for Wrestlemania? We were left to wonder. This entire angle made Raw a really good show. Of course there were some bad segments, but I can overlook the crap because of the how well the title picture for Wrestlemania was done.
Now for any of you that missed ECW last night, at the end of that show Taker came out with a stare down with Bobby Lashley. The show ended with Joey Styles saying its Taker vs. Lashley at Wrestlemania. It seems like Taker is just toying with all of us and Im sure there is more to come with him on Smackdown. Now let me say this there are some rumors going around that it will be Taker vs. Cena at Wrestlemania, and HBK vs. Batista for the World Title. But as I said these are rumors and I really dont think anyone but Vince knows who will face who. So as you can tell Wrestlemania fever has started with me, and I cannot wait to watch this weeks Smackdown to see what happens with Taker and Batista. I would like to leave you with a couple of quick thoughts. I started watching MTVs Wrestling Society X, and man is it good. Its 30 minutes of fast paced no-mic work wrestling. You have New Jack, Vampiro, Teddy Hart, and Sixx Pac just to name a few killing themselves out there. I have to say I was very impressed. And just when I got back to watching Impact every Saturday night, Im starting to think that the trend might come to end soon. Without giving away a spoiler, I see they just brought in a veteran that I do not like, and I have a feeling that my days of watching the complete shows are numbered. Okay let me leave you with the following request from a reader. Hopefully Ill be back to talk about Smackdown, it will depend on how Im doing with my lovely ankle.
I am looking for anyone with a copy of Backlash from 2003, featuring the Rock vs. Goldberg. If anyone has one or knows where I can find a copy I would be willing to pay $15-20 bucks for it depending on what type of condition it is in. Thank you and you can email me at bcullers10@hotmail.com. Now the last request is from a reader that has a trivia question that both of us cant figure out. I have a question for you. This is from the WWE special holiday magazine, “Best of WWE. There is a question that really stumped me. They gave a list of wrestlers and you have to guess what they all have in common. My friends and I have tried very hard to figure this out but we havent been able too. So maybe your readers can help us. Here is the list: and they can email me at wpac4e@yahoo.com.
