Rick Cobos passed along the following report:
I attended last night’s Rumble, here are some quick notes:
– I missed the dark match, didn’t lose any sleep over it.
– The opener was okay to me, as I felt it could have been better.
– I took my snack break immediately after the opener, and didn’t come back until the entrances of Batista vs. Kennedy; again, I lost no sleep over missing out on that Lashley vs. Test classic.
– Batista vs. Kennedy exceeded my expectations, thanks to the leg work psychology. Kennedy got some good chants for awhile. If Batista uses psychology on a frequent basis like he did last night, perhaps he won’t be so damn boring like he’s been over the past year.
– Cena vs. Umaga was EASILY match of the night. Everyone’s said their piece about this classic, all I can say is that the live atmosphere was INCREDIBLE, and it’s what professional wrestling is all about.
– I found the Rumble to be good, but disappointing. I felt it was missing that extra spark to make it truly memorable. Khali eliminating Punk and Benoit sure didn’t make my enjoyment of the match go up either. Also, I expected a REAL Undertaker entrance (ie, one that lasts at least a minute.) Speaking of Taker, I had no problem with him winning, and I have nothing but respect for him and HBK, but 1997 called and asked for WWE to start trying to give the rub to some new blood. Why couldn’t Punk or Carlito be the runner-up instead of Taker, then they could have gotten the rub for almost taking down the legendary Undertaker? Lastly, why were the intervals so damn short?
Overall, it was a fun show, but maybe my expectations are too high when I pay over $100 for my friend and I to attend. I felt certain parts of the show could have been better, but I guess that’s what happens when a company leaves so much to the last minute. Oh well, it was certainly better than the other PPV I attended (Taboo Tuesday 2004 in Milwaukee.)
