First, I would like to apologize for the long gap between postings. Having severe mono and packing up my life in a matter of hours to move to college at the last minute are NOT a good combination. Bear with me, as I’m sure you’ll enjoy the final installation of this series.
Well folks, the time is here. After weeks of waiting, it is finally safe to reveal the winner of the tournament. But first, a few quick notes on how each wrestler advanced to each round before being defeated- or in one man’s case, before becoming the Best in Show 2006.
Edge rose to stardom in 2006, surpassing John Cena for the spotlight. His long and involved feud with Cena is one that has not been seen since the early 2000’s. Whether it was his Money in the Bank cash in, or his continuing WrestleMania undefeated streak, or even the crowning achievement of the WWE Tag Team Titles- he’s pretty much done it all in 2006.
Umaga was undefeated in 2006, never losing by pinfall or submission. The Samoan Bulldozer debuted in April 2006 and immediately grabbed the spotlight by attacking Ric Flair. He’s beaten the likes of Flair, HBK, Triple H, John Cena, and Jeff Hardy. In one of the more memorable feuds, he defeated Kane every time he faced him- even sending him off the RAW brand in a “Loser Leaves Raw” match.
Booker T has already been featured in the earlier rounds, but to summarize his accomplishments let me just say King Booker won the World Title. All Hail King Booker!
Gregory Helms was the diamond in the rough for SmackDown this past year, as he started off with a BANG by winning the Cruiserweight Championship at the Royal Rumble. He continued his reign from that point on, successfully defending against ALL of the SmackDown cruiserweights during the year. He is the longest reigning Cruiserweight Champion ever, he is the longest reigning champion on SmackDown ever, and he is the ONLY wrestler to have held the WCW and WWE Cruiserweight Championship.
But when it comes down to it, undefeated is undefeated. It just doesn’t make sense for a perfect record to be anything but #1 (maybe the BCS is listening…). Therefore, your winner of the Best in Show 2006 Tournament is….
UMAGA!
And if you disagree, well you’re just going to have to take it up with him!
