It feels so good to just sit here and talk about Raw, after two full days of Christmas shopping. I wanted so much to write about Monday’s three hour Raw yesterday but what the hell my feelings haven’t changed in a day, I still LOVED the show a lot. I can’t wait to talk about certain segments that really appealed to me. I was very surprised by how fast the three hours flew by. Okay before I get into Raw, let me just mention quickly a few things about Armageddon. Yes I did a miserable job picking the winners. I got two right and I really thought I would miss them all. And finally I kept up with the results and also read feedback and this show got RAVE reviews. And to make things even better every one of you that sent me your thoughts thought the show was off the charts. The ladder match alone was the match that stole the show. I saw the Joey Mercury injury replayed on Raw, and even though I read about it over and over again, after watching it it’s amazing that he’s alive and doing so well. So thank you all for sending me your reviews of the show and I’m very lucky because a good friend of mine made taped the show for me so I WILL get to watch it. Okay on to Monday’s Raw.
Really was there anything wrong with the show? Not for me. This Raw I think had more solid wrestling than I’ve seen in a long time. There was hardly any mic work or backstage segments; wrestling was the theme for Monday night. While I’m not a Battle Royale type of fan this one played out very well. I thought it was so cool that Hunter was tossed out, but Shawn Michaels remained in there until the very end. And when Shawn appeared to have won, but then that sneaky Edge took him out, it caught me off guard and I was kind of disappointed because we have seen Cena vs. Edge a few times. A HBK/Cena main event for the title would have been nice for a change. But trust me by the time Edge faced Cena for that title I was so into that match. But I‘ll get to that in a little bit. Now most of you know that I don’t like Chris Masters, but I thought having Carlito and Masters just have a nice mini brawl was very effective. Especially the part where Carlito got knocked into the camera and his face just started bleeding all over the place. There was no Master-lock attempted at all and it just was Carlito going after Masters for Chris putting that Master-lock on Torrie last week. I liked this segment very much.
The next match with Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin and Johnny Nitro vs. The Hardy’s was really good. The Hardy’s were stuck in this handicap match because Nitro and Melina blamed them for Joey Mercury’s injury. This was such a good match. The Hardy’s looked like they were in agony from their ladder match the night before and Nitro and TWGTT were totally on their game. It is such a pleasure to see all five of these guys out there and doing what they do so well, WRESTLE. Ric Flair and Kenny Dykstra (I think I would have just stayed with Kenny) put on another good match. There’s not doubt in my mind that it’s already working for Kenny being away from the Spirit Squad. We have seen Flair wrestle members of the Spirit Squad many times, but I think this match with Kenny was by far the best. Yeah Kenny seems to have it, at least for now he does.
John Cena vs. Edge, you know the match that I wanted to see Shawn Michaels in was just a terrific match. Honestly I figured Shawn would come out and see to it that Edge lost, meaning I didn’t think this would go on long, but it went on longer than I thought and I couldn’t have been happier about that. Edge and Cena looked really focused in this and they gave 110 percent. Now earlier in the show, Edge was talking to Randy Orton after winning the Battle Royale. He let Orton know in no uncertain terms that this WWE title meant more to him than anything thing else, meaning screw their tag team titles. When Edge walked away Orton didn’t seem too happy about Edge’s remarks. But Randy Orton was there for Edge when Edge needed him. I liked the RKO Orton gave to Cena to help Edge win. But I think we all knew that Cena wasn’t going to lose that match. And while I thought Shawn Michaels would interfere in the match I didn’t think that Hunter would be there too. Although, DUH they are DX. That whole DX thing with HBK taking out Orton and Hunter taking out Edge was quite entertaining. The Pedigree from Triple H put Edge out and Cena was able to crawl to Edge for the win. And what really hyped me up was when Cena realized that DX was there for him and he left the ring to join them on the ramp. This was one very good match and an ending with DX and Cena that just worked so well.
Now the only really in ring segment without wrestling was with Cryme Tyme and “President Bush.” Now I know it wasn’t exactly a popular segment with many fans, but I am so happy with Shad and JTG that they can take any lame skit and make it funny. I was fine with this and I can see a feud in the works with Cryme Tyme and WGTT. I would say at New Years Revolution we will see them face each other. Now back to the matches. This next one was Mickie James’s strongest performance in many many months. She was just excellent against Victoria. And Victoria was as good as she’s been since the spotlight has been put back on her. I was very surprised that this match happened even though it was a non title match. The reason I am saying this is because they are going to face each other at NYR for the Women’s title. I guess I would have thought that they would hold them off until that night.
And finally the main event with Edge, Randy Orton and Umaga vs. John Cena, and DX was, yes, EXCELLENT. The Washington, D.C. crowd was pretty damn good but by the time this match hit they were kind of quiet. My reason was that they had sat there for over three hours and trust me after a while you do get a little tired. But the match was as good as it gets. And having DX get so brutally attacked by Edge and Orton was one of the top highlights of the show. I read on a few sites last week some fans bitching that DX has killed all of Edge’s and Orton’s heel heat because they always get the best of them. But I never felt that because you have a few weeks before the pay per view and there’s plenty of time for Edge and Orton to get revenge and that’s just what happened Monday night. The chair shots to Triple H’s head and HBK hitting the chair with a double RKO was quite dramatic and because of that the attacks came off so well. With Raw in Iraq next Monday night, and no DX because they didn’t make the trip, they will have two weeks to “recuperate” and start gunning for Orton and Edge. I have liked this feud from the start and it’s getting better and better every week.
I will end with K-Fed’s segment; He did another excellent job on the mic. I have no idea if he will be much in the ring when he faces John Cena on the January 8th, but on the mic he has been consistently strong. Now maybe because Brittany Spears since she filed for divorce has come off like a skank, now there’s a word I hardly use, but because of her actions Kevin Federline look less like a jack ass. I am cool with this guy and we will have to see how things work out with him against Cena in a few weeks. Well I could go on and on but I will end it here and I’m just going to repeat it again that Raw was just awesome. I will be off now until next Tuesday. So I want to wish you all Happy Holidays and I’m leaving you with two requests from readers.
My name is Cody. I’m just curious if anyone knows where I can find the cage match between Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit (online). It’s the match where Angle does the moonsault off the top you can email me at monkeything@comcast.net. And here’s the second request. I was wondering if there is someone that blogs or puts out articles about the earlier days of wrestling. You can email me at musmandj@yahoo.com.
