If Kurt Angle’s first month in TNA is any indication, it won’t take long for the Olympic gold medalist to cement his place as the greatest ever. In his first televised match, Angle forced the monster Abyss to tap out. What makes that more impressive is that the next time Abyss entered a TNA ring, he defeated Sting to become the new world champion. Angle followed up with a submission victory over the previously undefeated Samoa Joe at ”Genesis.” No doubt these two will meet again — and nobody would be surprised to see Joe pick up a win or two down the road. Meanwhile, Angle is rested from injuries and mentally prepared for a big run. WWE’s John Cena may be wrestling’s biggest star, but Angle is the best wrestler.
AROUND THE RING: WWE will phase out all ECW house shows and ECW-only pay-per-views. Expect some mid-card wrestlers to be released. … Rey Mysterio’s contract will expire while he is recovering from knee surgery, and some in WWE are concerned he will jump to TNA. …
