Oh boy what a Raw last night. Was that possibly one of THE very worst Raw’s in ages? Yeah I would say so. There’s no sense in me going through the entire show when the only thing that I found fun and entertaining was the last few minutes of the show. Oh what the hell let me go through most of it, and analyze why I think Raw stunk and then talk a little bit about Cyber Sunday which I happened to like a lot. You know many times after a pay per view Raw is nothing to write home about but there was no excuse for what Vince McMahon and his brilliant creative staff put on for us last night.
I knew we were in trouble as soon as the show started. The Ohio University crowd was not the loudest during the opening. And when Eric Bischoff came out and made three announcements, the crowd seemed to get more silent with each announcement that came out of his mouth. The first announcement was that he would be the GM for the night because Vince wanted to reward him for screwing DX at Cyber Sunday. And then Bisch announced that John Cena would not be on because he was given the night off. And finally that DX was banned from the building. This all seemed to really bring the live crowd down and let’s face it even though Cena and DX were supposedly not going to show up, I’m sure the majority of the fans including me knew we would see Cena, Hunter and Shawn at one point during the show. This opening was just the start of a very very long night.
Let me tell you why this show bombed, at least my reasons for it. And believe me I have a few. First while Bischoff has been away for a while, his GM role last night came off like he never left. It was the same old stuff. Screwing the faces and re-doing matches if he didn’t like the ending. It was the same crap that I think many of us got tired of right before Vince “fired” Bisch last year.
Another reason I believe this show turned so many off was that Jeff Hardy the man that won his match and kept the title at Cyber Sunday, lost it back to Johnny Nitro. I know I wasn’t happy with that at all. I feel that Hardy didn’t have the title long and I wanted to see him continue being the IC champion for a little longer. Then we had Maria being punished by Bischoff for going against him last year at his trial and then making her “wrestle” Umaga. Now I knew and I mean I knew this is where John Cena would come out and save her and then the Cena/Umaga feud would start. Well in a way I was right, however, I could not believe that the wonderful creative team would have Umaga do all his moves on Maria before Cena came out to help her.
I just thought that was ridiculous and then to make matters worse, you have Maria out cold from the beating and Cena is doing a so called humorous promo on K-Fed and Umaga. Oh please how stupid was all of that? The woman is down, don’t do jokes get MAD and help her, but no Vince I guess finds a funny Cena more appealing then an intense angry Cena. The rumors have been out there for a while that the Spirit Squad is splitting up. So naturally I think so many of us thought that we would finally see this happen when Bischoff made one of his many stipulation matches. The loser of the tag team match splits up. So we have Kenny and Johnny vs. Eugene and Hacksaw Duggan. And in this waste of time match Eugene and Hacksaw lose. The Spirit Squad leave in tact and sadly Eugene and Duggan split up. I guess we saw a Eugene heel turn on Hacksaw. Oh boy what a feud we have brewing here. And yes that’s sarcasm. Add another lame segment with Chris Masters taking on Jerry Lawler. As you can see all of this was beyond crap. Now ask yourself this. After sitting for this show how could anyone expect this Ohio University crowd to react any differently then they did? This group never had a chance.
I will say that Lita and Mickie James put on a much better match than they did at Cyber Sunday, much better. Shelton and Carlito had something good going, but unfortunately it was too short of a match. I enjoyed Cryme Tyme with JR, I’m starting to like how relaxed and at home they seemed to be in the WWE. K-Fed was okay on the mic even though there were times he took too much time to talk, but he still comes off like the scum bag he is and I had no problem with his short promo. By the way now that Brittany Spears filed for divorce, I just wonder if we are going to see Mr. Federline on a weekly basis. I mean he’s going to need some cash to live on since the wife will be out of the picture. Okay, finally, it was the DX segment with Big Dick Johnson that woke not only me up but the Ohio State University crowd. Yes it was gross seeing the DX sign on Johnson’s ass, and yes it was gross watching Hunter and Shawn put Eric Bischoff’s face in Johnson’s ass, but you know what? After one very long night I laughed and got some enjoyment out of the show. I got a kick out of watching Shawn Michaels dance throughout the segment. He really gets into the music. Hunter wasn’t bad either except he does it less seriously then HBK does. But watching the two of them dance and even get Bischoff was a lot of fun. Think of it this way, I’m a Boogeyman fan worms and all so an overweight male stripper having a good time works for me. I want to end this now because it pains me to go any further.
So let me give you some quick thoughts on Cyber Sunday. I liked the show. Now as I said to one of my readers yesterday I hope what I’m saying makes sense. I liked the show a lot and I’m glad I ordered it, but I certainly wouldn’t tell you to make sure to order the encore. As good as it was it wasn’t worth $35.00. While the worst match of the night had to be Lita vs. Mickie and trust me it was pathetic everything else including Haas/Vis vs. Cryme Tyme vs. Cade/Murdoch came off very well. But there wasn’t one match that was like WOW! You really should get the show. This was like watching a strong Raw with very little talk and a lot of wrestling. But after last night’s Raw, Cyber Sunday came off like a five star show.
I will leave you with a question from one of my readers; he would like to know if Ric Flair and Rowdy Roddy Piper are the oldest wrestlers to win the tag team championship? You can email him at elvis25@optonline.net.
